Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you've planned ahead. Follow these handy tips and tricks that will help get your Roundhead escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Flying can be a comfortable experience if you bring the right stuff. First of all you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a spare change of clothes and a magazine or two. Secondly, make room in your bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any medications and perhaps a neck pillow as well. Lastly, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of restricted items can differ between airlines, the general rule to follow is avoid carrying anything flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, pocket knives, fuel and fireworks. Sporting equipment like bows and arrows, and objects that could injure passengers, such as pepper spray and guns, are also banned from the cabin.
What to wear on a flight:
- The long, narrow aisles of an aircraft are not the best place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfortable clothing and remember to take a cardigan as it can get quite cool in the cabin on long-haul flights. Closed-toed, flat shoes are also a good choice.
- A condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clotting due to poor circulation. Walking up and down the aisle and doing foot and leg exercises in your seat is a great way to prevent this from occurring. Wearing a high-quality pair of compression socks is also a wise idea.
