Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you're well organized. Follow these handy travel tips that will help get your Severn escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Air travel can be easy if you pack the right things. First things first, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as toothpaste, a toothbrush and some deodorant, a clean set of clothes and a good read. Secondly, find room in your carry-on bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any medications and perhaps a comfy neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, remember to take your passport, travel docs and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked baggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by authorities. Sharp objects, like a Swiss Army knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, flares and strong acids, are also prohibited.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your aim here is to be as comfortable as you can. Layer up in breathable clothing and don't forget to pack a pullover in case it gets chilly in the cabin. Pick a pair of well-fitting, flat shoes as your feet may swell a little during the flight. Leave the stilettos and heavy boots in your main luggage.
- Unfortunately, one risk of long-distance flying is developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To avoid this, take every opportunity to walk around and give your legs a stretch. Compression tights and socks are another great idea to help minimize this risk.
