- Traveling on a plane can be a stress-free experience if you've got all the right things. First things first, you'll need toiletry items, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a clean set of clothes and a good novel. Secondly, find room in your hand luggage for your phone, tablet and chargers, your medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow too. Last, but definitely not least, don't forget to take your passport, travel docs and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Make sure you don't have a sharp object hiding in your hand luggage. Other prohibited items include explosive or flammable substances, such as bleach and fuel, and liquids and gels in containers larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
What to wear on a flight:
- The narrow aisles of your plane are not the place for a fashion parade. Don comfortable layers and remember to take a cardigan as the temperature can drop in the cabin on long-haul flights. Closed-toed, flat shoes are always a good idea too.
- Unfortunately, one risk of long flights is developing DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clot condition caused by lengthy periods of inactivity. To prevent this from happening, take every opportunity to stretch your legs and walk around the cabin. Compression socks and tights are another easy way to help minimize this risk.
