- The trick to having a stress-free travel experience is to pack ahead. First up, the essentials: passport, travel docs, bank cards and daily medications. Next, take on board items that'll help keep you occupied, like some electronic gadgets or a good read. It's also wise to pack your chargers, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of noise-canceling headphones. Last but not least, be sure to squeeze in toiletries like a toothbrush, cleansing wipes and a spare set of clothes.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by authorities. Pointed or sharp objects, like a Swiss Army knife, and dangerous goods which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and gasoline, are also banned.
What to wear on a flight:
- The main aim is to make yourself as comfortable as you can. Layer yourself up in natural-fiber clothing and take a pullover in case it gets chilly in the cabin. Always opt for flat, slightly roomy shoes as your feet may swell a little during the flight. Leave the stilettos and heavy hiking boots in your luggage.
- A condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clotting due to poor circulation and inactivity. Walking up and down the aisle and doing foot and leg exercises while seated helps to prevent this happening. Wearing a pair of compression tights or socks is also recommended.
