"The Hotel Julien is an historic gem located in a prime downtown Dubuque location with a short walking distance to the Mississippi River, museums and other attractions, and some of the best restaurants Dubuque has to offer.
This well maintained hotel appears so grand with rich dark wood tones, polished brass and sophisticated decor. It's no wonder famous Americans such as Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, Al Capone, and Sylvester Stallone chose Hotel Julien when in this area.
We experienced a very friendly staff throughout our stay and plentiful free parking (with several spots in front and in back), clean rooms. Our room was clean, quiet, and very comfortable offering a restful night's sleep. Don't let the age of this hotel dissuade you from staying--it's been modernized to also include having charging spots for electric vehicles. We also felt very safe in this area walking to/from all the major sites and restaurants within a mile radius.
We did extensive research for where to stay within Dubuque and surrounding areas to include as far as Galena, IL and this is simply the best place to stay when visiting the Dubuque area!
Lastly, Expedia did a flawless job in room booking fulfillment as usual!"
"It was attached to a casino which I wasn’t interested in. The attached restaurant was not open the night we were there so that was disappointing. But the breakfast (for a fee) was delicious. The staff was helpful and nice. The room was clean although it was short on lighting. All in all, I would recommend to a friend"
"Stayed one night on a Saturday. Property is large but secluded right off the main road. Room was nice sized with large TV. Pool was closed but pool area looked very nice. Went to attached lounge for food which was ok. Bar a little rowdy but Iowa football was on. Breakfast choices were good. Was able to park right outside our room."
Best Western Plus Dubuque Hotel & Conference Center
10/10 Excellent
"The hot tub was being drained and cleaned before the weekend which we appreciated!
Staff were… there. None of them would address us or even acknowledge us most of the time.
Weird. Other than that great stay!"
"Breakfast was good but was the same each day.
They only clean the room every 7 days........
They did have an EXTREME curry smell on one of the nights which was very hard to breathe
Smoke alarm also went off one of the nights
Had to get your own replacement towels, soap and toilet paper"
