The Cross at Croscombe

"We picked the Cross at Croscombe as a convenient place to stop halfway between Kent and Cornwall, and fairly close to the Cheddar Gorge. It was an excellent choice. The guest house is a lovely old building and our very spacious room was furnished modernly and very comfortably. Although The Cross is on the main road through Croscombe, the road was not that busy and The Cross was very quiet. The owner was very friendly and welcomed us with a cream tea. She was also very interesting about some of the history of the village. Our breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. PS. Cheddar Gorge itself is worth a visit but Cheddar is rather tacky, dare I say cheesy."

"Lovely spacious, clean & comfortable apartment in excellent location few minutes walk to Wells & shops. Good place to stay for exploring other attractions around the area, Cheddar Gorge, Haynes Motor Museum, Bath, etc. I would highly recommend especially for a couple. Not suitable for wheelchair bound or those who have difficulty with stairs as it is situated on the fourth floor with four flights of stairs to climb."

"A 3-star hotel / bed-and-breakfast - very personal, friendly service. The hotel is visited daily by locals buying newspapers. All meals cooked to order, including breakfast - a nice change to the usual experience in hotels nowadays. We turned up at about 4.30pm to find opening time was 5pm - we must have missed this in the instructions. The hotel was open promptly at 5 pm however. On the Sunday the bar closed at 5pm so dinner had to be elsewhere - not a problem for us as we always tend to have a meal in the hotel on the first night, then try other restaurants elsewhere. The owner told us about the history of the hotel - they have been there for around 26 years. All in all, a very relaxed, personal atmosphere, a nice change from the usual hotel experience."

"A really beautiful house and location. Room was large and bed very comfortable. Very welcoming and great recommendation for dinner and booked us a table. Breakfast had a wide choice of options and the full English was very tasty with locally sourced food. Would highly recommend"
