The room was very clean and welcoming. The host was super helpful and responded quickly. We loved the location and the views were amazing! We will definitely come back to stay here.
We stayed in bunkhouse 1 which was very spacious and well appointed. The views are beautiful and star gazing was amazing with the dark skies. There’s a gym, pool and hot tub that we look forward to using on our next visit. Only 5 miles into Ft. Davis for restaurants so it was very convenient. I highly recommend High Frontier!
We stayed in the field house #4. Very clean and modern room. We did not have time to try the pool, as we spent so much time exploring the local trails. Looks like a great space for an event.
It was me, my 5 year old, and our 9 month old puppy. We were amazed at the quality of the accommodations. My daughter made a video tour for our friends & asked when we’d be back. We all slept great, the sunset and sunrise views were amazing. Outdoor areas clean and made for great stargazing. Sunrise in the large windows was a peaceful start to the morning. All the kitchen supplies we could need and a large tv for movie night. Luxury towels and robes. The dog lived her best life and none of us wanted to leave.
High Frontier is located in the beautiful Davis Mountains in West Texas. It is fairly new. We had extreme privacy. We never saw anyone else during our stay. Various amenities on the property were still under construction but useable. My family had a blast. We only regret we were not able to stay longer.
Our two day stay (with dogs) in Bunk House 1, was PEREFECT! The property and accommodations are amazing! My husband and I travel frequently and it's rare for my husband to state he wants to return to a property before our visit is even over! Sit on a bluff with a view of the Davis mountains, the rugged view is every bit as good as Big Bend, and much more accessible. The resort is in Fort Davis, but its' own world! The spacious, 2 room Bunk House was decorated in a contemporary, minimalist style (good for dogs), a huge big screen TV, a super comfortable bed and large bathroom, night blinds, and a big fireplace set with wood and a starter log. We were blown away! We couldn't have asked for anything more! At night, the stars are AMAZING and the facility lights are set in a way not to interfere with the dark sky. This is a SPECIAL, SPECIAL place! A 10++ on a scale of 10!
I absolutely loved this resort!! Before we arrived, I recieved a text, with a map of the property, to show us how to get to the building we needed to go to. We stayed in a studio, and I only hated we were only spending one night at the resort. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and overall the room was massive. The room provided toiletries smelled so good!! The shower was one of the best showers at a resort I have ever used.
The only small inconvenience were the roads being dirt/gravel. Which was mostly only an issue, because it was raining during our trip. I don't remember seeing on the Expedia listing that the roads were this way, but it also wouldn't stop me from staying there again. It would have just have been nice to know, so when my husband started worrying that we were going the wrong way because of the roads, I could tell him it was ok.
Accommodations were impeccable. Home away from home! Maggie was a delightful hostess. She took great care of us - even told us to bundle up for observatory visit.
My family will definitely come for another longer stay.
Wonderful in every way! Maggie is a caring, attentive and accommodating host. Quiet, peaceful and beautiful landscape with comfy bedding and thoughtful interiors.
A great place to stay if you are visiting the McDonald Observatory. It’s quiet, very comfortable and fully furnished. Hosts were supportive and patient. My family fell in love with this place to a level we are likely to come back early next year.
If you are looking for a restful, stress-free, opportunity to enjoy nature with all the luxuries of a home look no further. We stayed at the Ranch House and had incredible costumer service by Maggie. The hotel is a short drive to the town's antique shops and central to McDonald's Observatory, Balmorhea State Park, Davis Mountain State Park and the Chihuahua Desert Trail.
The area, scenery was beautiful, the room was nice, I would stay there again. I want to suggest putting up little signs to direct people where to go. I stayed in the Ranch house but there was no signage, it took about 15 minutes to find, the key was on the porch, not on door, so I couldn't see it from my car. And also the ranch house doesn't look like a typical ranch house, another reason a little sign would be good for guest. The only signage was for the field house. Otherwise it was fantastic place. Thank you!
