I visited many other Havelis in Jodhpur, to eat at their rooftop restaurants, and all of them were cleaner, had more staff working, and had other people staying there. "Excellent service, awesome decor and fantastic food. Our in hotel experience was really, really good. The car service arranged by the travel desk was also excellent. We however did not have a good experience with the guide arranged by the travel desk. We were more interested in sightseeing but the guide was more interested in taking us shopping. Very pushy and very, very exhausting. We would recommend that you use the car service and recommendations for places to visit from the travel desk but not the full day guide. "

To get this shot of Ranisar Talab lake behind the majestic Mehrangarh fort of the blue city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India, we had to step outside of what would be most people’s comfort zones.

We had to traverse a wild, rocky desert landscape, navigate a steep incline, pass through a tiny doorway in an ancient crumbling fort wall, and then clamber up a steep slope of rubble and loose rocks to get up on top of that very same fort wall.

Once at the very top of the wall looking out over the lake, I had to back up to the very edge of the wall and avoid falling to my death to the ground over 30 metres below, just to get that perfect shot.

This was an off-limits part of the Mehrangarh fort complex where the vast majority of tourists almost never venture!

Epic shots often have epic stories behind them! We wanted to bring this issue to light, as many people don’t understand that if you want to take extraordinary travel photos, you sometimes have to be willing to do extraordinary things and step far outside of your comfort zone.
