"Fourvière Hôtel Lyon is a lovely place to stay for those who prefer a unique lodging with history and character to the predictability of an international chain. The building is an old monastery, converted to a modern hotel. It is located on a hill, near a magnificent Basilica and next door to an ancient Roman amphitheater. An easy 40 minute downhill walk to the town, but the return walk may be challenging. Fortunately there is funicular transportation to and fro that makes this a lot simpler. The hotel provides a good buffet breakfast, and an excellent outdoor restaurant that serves lunch and dinner, specializing in local Lyonais cuisine. The swimming pool is long and narrow and was quite crowded as there was a large party present. The staff were friendly and efficient, and there is a well-stocked bar with good local wines. We can warmly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Lyon."
