We loved our stay at this beautiful house. The location is excellent, making it very easy to drive to either side of Crete. Our host was fantastic and very friendly, helpful, and highly responsive. She also gave us great recommendations for places to visit around the island. The house itself is lovely and equipped with basic supplies for cooking in the evening, which was mostly suitable for our needs. We would definitely stay here again!

Très beau logement plein de charme, dans une ancienne bâtisse avec beaucoup d’âme. L’ensemble est un peu ancien, mais c’est justement ce que nous avons apprécié avec mon conjoint. Popi, notre hôte, a été extrêmement gentille et accueillante. Elle nous a donné de nombreux conseils et a pris le temps de nous faire découvrir le village, ce que nous avons beaucoup apprécié. C’est une personne charmante !

Amazing place if you want traditional housing and don't mind mountainous roads and you plan to travel into town from the village for eating out. The one taverna that serves food only opens at 2000 and isn't open every day. When they are open though they have Amazing food and the waitress was amazing as well. There's places to get groceries if you want to cook for yourself.

I give this hotel the highest rating in every aspect and cleanliness, location, and tranquility. The accommodation is located in a beautiful and peaceful village, and the people there are incredibly kind and welcoming. The hotel owner is one of the kindest people I have ever met. She truly goes above and beyond to ensure that her guests are satisfied and have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. I highly recommend this place, especially in the middle of a trip, after the noise of the city, the crowds, the heat of the sun, and the many pools and beaches. It is the perfect place to relax and recharge for one or two days in this quiet and beautiful village.

A wonderful Cretan home

The house was a lovely old Cretan house renovated to a high standard, and Popi was a wonderful, helpful, and knowledgeable host - really friendly and full of suggestions of where to go next. You will need to have a car to get around as it is not at all central, and do not expect a modern building - but it was full of character and the aircon worked very well, so in my eyes it was perfect! I would happily stay here again, and hope to do so some day in the coming years.

Wir waren zu zweit für über eine Woche im Aphrodite Haus und sind rundum zufrieden! Ich kann manche der negativen Bewertungen überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen. Popi war immer zur Stelle, wenn man sie brauchte. Sie ist extrem herzlich und hat mir sogar dabei geholfen, vor Ort echten Weihrauch direkt bei der Kirche zu kaufen. Sie kam regelmäßig vorbei, um die Pflanzen zu gießen, den Innenhof von Blättern zu befreien und durchzuwischen. Das Haus bietet richtig viel Platz, war absolut sauber und die Klimaanlage funktioniert einwandfrei. Die Ausstattung ist völlig ausreichend: Es gibt eine kleine Küche mit Spülbecken, Kühlschrank, Mikrowelle, Wasserkocher, Besteck und eine Kochplatte draußen. Das WLAN lief durchweg stabil und reichte problemlos für Netflix. Parken konnten wir unkompliziert direkt vor der Unterkunft an der Straße. Ein echtes Highlight ist der windstille Innenhof mit Olivenbaum, Couch, Tischen und Stühlen – herrlich für ein Bier am Abend. Man muss aber ehrlich sagen: Die Unterkunft ist nichts für Leute, die ein All-Inclusive-Resort mit Pizza am Buffet suchen. Hierher kommt man, wenn man fernab von Touristenhochburgen das echte Flair in einem kretischen Bergdorf erleben möchte. Ein Mietwagen ist Pflicht, um flexibel die Insel zu erkunden. Für Selbstversorger und Entdecker eine klare Empfehlung – wir kommen gerne wieder!

A lovely traditional house in a typical Cretan village away from the tourist hotspots. Our host spoke good English and was very welcoming and helpful. The bakery sells wonderful trays of Baklava which we enjoyed on our spacious roof terrace, a great place for breakfast too.

We stayed in a small village not far from the city center, a place with its own history and wonderful people. Everyone was kind and welcoming. Right next to where we stayed there was a church, and spending time there lets you truly feel the local culture. We stayed in the “Sofia” apartment, which had its own terrace very cozy and homely. There was a kitchen, the only thing missing was a kettle, but overall it’s a very pleasant place with everything you need close by. The host is really friendly and showed us the nearby areas.

L'appartement est vraiment très joli, situé dans un petit village pittoresque avec une vue magnifique à 25 min d'Heraklion. Une taverne traditionnelle qui vaut le détour est à 5min à pied. Malheureusement un gros point négatif sur la propreté (beaucoup de poussière, four très sale) et la fonctionnalité (pas de cuisine digne de ce nom). Heureusement, nous partions le matin et revenions le soir. Une pensée pour le locataire suivant, André, qui après 16h de vol ne pouvait pas joindre la propriétaire et qui est venu toquer à notre porte à 8h00 un peu désemparé, alors que nous devions partir à 11h.

If you are looking for a small town Crete experience this is a good place for that. Everyone was friendly, the house was cute and looked like the pictures. The hosts dinner recommendation, a short walk away, for Ethimiko, was very good. The only real issue we had was that the WiFi was not connecting in the room. If you want a disconnected experience this is your spot. The host did let us know they are working on getting a router for the room so this may be fixed soon.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. However, there were some things that I think could be improved. Mainly, the bed was really uncomfortable, although beautiful and clean linen. Myself and my partner barely slept the whole time, it was like a slab of concrete. We had a a terrace with our apartment which was gorgeous and had amazing views of the surrounding landscape. If I were to be picky, it would be nice to have more comfortable seating up there. Air con works and was great. You do need a car if you intend to leave the village, the location for us was 10/10. Beautiful views and easy to get to other locations as long as you hire a car. We didn’t try to get any taxis so not sure how easy it would be to book. The amenities in the village were great, a shop within 100 yards and the restaurant is traditional with fantastic staff. Very reasonably priced, and they bent over backwards to look after us. The apartment itself is lovely, although basic. You cannot really cook there, although there is a kitchen, as there were literally no utensils. There is no kettle either. Be careful of hidden costs, the host text me halfway through the stay to advise we had to pay a €5 per day charge for a climate change resilience fee, this wasn’t in any of the information we had received before or during the stay - and we stayed in a different hotel on our last night and we were not asked to pay this. As I said, overall despite some flaws, we really loved the stay and would stay again.

This house was so adorable! We were running extremely late do to a change in our flight but the owner stayed up to greet us. She showed us around the village and where the stores were. Even offered to check on us if we needed it. The house itself was cozy and well kept. We had the pleasure of having a nice dog hang out outside our door. We did run into some issues back home that caused us to have to leave early. The owner was very kind and even offered us a deal so our money wasn't going to be waste for when we return. I'm looking forward to coming back once everything back home has settled down. Thank you so much for the amazing time. I live in the mountains and this truly felt like home.

The traditional Cretan house we booked was nothing like the images online. Upon arrival, the place was dirty and in disrepair. Our suite, named Sophia, had hair and sweat marks on the bed and dust all over the ceiling and kitchen. The village is generally pleasant and the locals friendly.The host, Popi, was elusive, disappearing upon our arrival and only reappearing towards the end of our trip. She explained that she was not in town for several days because of a hospital visit, but we saw her several times around. If you decide to stay at this place, a car is highly recommended due to almost no public transportation in the area. Overall, it’s not worth the money at all.

This is a unique opportunity to stay in an old house in a small village up in the hills. Don’t expect modern features, but there was plenty of hot water, cable television, and a good local taberna. The Expedia listing says “breakfast provided,” but don’t expect more than coffee in the apartment. When I asked the owner, she just told me where to buy bread in the morning! The only serious problem was that the property owner claimed she never got our reservation from Expedia and that she never got any of my phone calls or texts confirming our arrival. So, when we got to the property, it was locked, and no one in town spoke English! In the end, the owner did arrive and gave us a choice of any of the apartments. So, if you go, be sure to make contact with the owner before you show up!
