Ilha Grande Bay, Rio de Janeiro State hotel rooms at the Independent

"The room smelled really bad, like old and rancid. The bed sheets had a strong foul mothy smell like they haven’t been washed in months. The bathroom walls were dirty and stained. The balcony had no table or chairs. The tv is very small, very bad quality picture and no Netflix or cable. "

"The hotel was basic in facilities but it was clean and the owners friendly. It is close to the beach so a swim before breakfast is a must. 10 minute walk to the historical part of Paraty where there are many good restaurants and tasteful shops. "

"DO NOT STAY HERE unless you 1) like being bitten by insects / sleeping in insect repellent, 2) have unlimited data on your mobile phone, 3) have a deep love of cats and/or 4) have a complete disregard of your own health and safety. I've written a more thorough review on Google but a special mention to Hotels.com/Expedia for quickly refunding me for this nightmare after providing photographic evidence. Not one member of staff speaks English or understands the concept of Google translate,...

"The Pousada it's generally good, but in my room i didn't find any soap nor body wash, no hangers for clothes, in my friend's room there were 3 pcs of soap, but no body wash,and she had hangers. My face towel was dirty. The location and the parking were the plus."
