Experience the outskirts of the United States as you hike, hunt, fish or snowmobile in the lovely surroundings of this scenic town in Maine’s Somerset County.

Discover Maine in all its rustic glory in the town of Jackman, nestled among over 250,000 acres (100,000 hectares) of wilderness. The town, which hugs the United States and Canada border, feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of its coastal counterparts. Learn why people love to visit Jackman in all seasons.

Find Jackman as one of the last stops before the Canadian border along the Old Canada Road Scenic Byway. The road stretches for 78 miles (125 kilometers) from the town of Solon to Québec Province. Stop at the Attean Overlook, just south of Jackman, and enjoy panoramic views of lakes and forests stretching to the horizon.

Cast your line into Wood Pond and see what you catch. The lakes near Jackman are filled with salmon, trout, splake, cusk and other fish. Take a scenic stroll along the shoreline or explore its waters by boat. Travel easily between Attean Pond, Long Pond and Holeb Pond, which are connected by the Moose River. Whether you’re in the mood for a whitewater rafting excursion or a quiet canoe ride, find something to suit your desired excitement level.

Find adventure on the Moose River Bow Trip. The 34-mile (55-kilometer) route snakes through thousands of acres of wilderness along the Holeb and Attean Ponds. Camp overnight in one of the many rustic campsites scattered along the route.

Don’t be surprised if you see snow when you visit Jackman. The town is known as the first place in Maine to get snow and the last to lose it. Take advantage of the winter weather on snowshoes, snowmobile or cross-country skis.

Jackman is just 16 miles (26 kilometers) from the Canadian border. Take a daytrip into Canada or ride the trails into the neighboring country. If you make this venture, be prepared with the proper documents for international travel.
