Early pre booking placed lodgings as close as possible to bar, kitchen, showers,camp ground and toilets. All making a noisy, dusty and un Eco experience.

Our stay was extended from 2 nights to 4 nights because our Pt Hedland accommodation was cancelled due to the upcoming Tropical Cyclone ILSA. The staff at Karijini very kindly extended our stay at short notice. The kangaroo steaks for dining were excellent I would highly recommend.

Lack of info from staff re closing of attractions/gorges with onset of rain. They refer you to the govt website which isn’t updated regularly enough to plan or do anything about it. Info provided by staff was poor and did not assist in making decisions or other arrangements due to the rain. Did not even rain some days but most gorges remained closed so we Left 2 days early and will not return.

The Karijini National Park is managed by the State Government (DBCA) and Park Rangers who may restrict or close access to attractions for safety reasons, especially during rain events when flash flooding in the gorges is a serious risk. Weather updates and gorge closure information is provided to us by the local DBCA Rangers along with the government websites they recommend for visitors to check for National Park advice. Our friendly reception staff pass on this information as we receive it. We are sorry you feel this information was poor and that you did not enjoy your Karijini experience. Wir haben kurzfristig die Reiseroute geändert, nachdem wir von den Asbestadern auf den Trails und von Wittenoom gehört und dann gelesen haben. Die Stadt ist nur 18 km entfernt der Unterkunft, das war uns zu riskant. Der Wind kann die Fasern mehrere Hundert km tragen, wenn nicht sogar weiter. Das Risiko in 30 Jahren Krebs zu bekommen stand für uns nicht dafür. Schade dass darüber nicht mehr Aufklärung, auf der Seite der Unterkunft beispielsweise, stattfindet. Angesichts des Risikos, dass Urlauber eingehen finde ich es nicht nur gut sondern verpflichtend darüber aufzuklären, sodass man weiß worauf man sich wirklich einlässt.

Hi Cronelia, thank you for your comments on Karijini. Blue asbestos (crocidolite) is a naturally occurring silicate mineral that occurs within the Hamersley Range. Mining of blue asbestos in the area commenced sporadically in the 1930s, initially in Dales and Yampire Gorges, and then in Wittenoom Gorge and ceased in 1966. Yampire and Wittenoom Gorge are closed to the public. Blue asbestos may be exposed as a seam in rocks in deep sections of Dales Gorge and has a blue colour with a fibrous appearance. Unlike mined and processed asbestos, it is not considered hazardous in its unprocessed natural state, nor during short periods of exposure. Signage placed throughout the National Park advises that for precautionary reasons, people should not touch or break any rocks containing blue asbestos fibres, and that children should be supervised and should not play with the fibre-containing rocks. There are no sightings of Blue Asbestos in Karijini Eco Retreat. Best Regards,

2 night tent stay
Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay in our first eco tent accommodation. Bed was huge and comfy and we enjoyed the experience, had to get acquainted with the tiny frogs in the bathroom, but by putting plug in sink, kept them out. Restaurant and staff were amazing, even catering for my wife's dairy and gluten intolerances. Enjoyed going to the lookouts and swimming in Fern pool and the waterfall pool just before it.

Loved our stay but there could have added a couple of touches that would make it amazing. Suggest having a solar powered small fridge in room as esky was old and ice melted too fast. Put a sink to wash you stuff next to the BBQ’s.

The King deluxe glamping tents are spacious and bed is very comfortable. Fantastic views of the bush and hills whilst sitting on the deck, from the king bed or from the shower :) We really appreciated the dinner options and coffee from the cafe in the morning. Well worth the trip and expense. Super friendly backpackers working in the cafe and reception.

It's certainly a 'captive market' kind of location, but the meals and the accommodation were worth it. We were 'glamping' and it came entirely as advertised. The restaurant provided excellent meals too. Had a lovely stay. Short, but enjoyable. Would definitely do it again.

Beautiful location. Quiet and peaceful. There isn’t enough written or advertised anywhere about what this place has to offer! It was still very warm in March! Would love to come back in winter and try these out.

We liked the unique location, the complete serenity and seclusion but when the sun went down there wasnt anything to do except sit in your tent. Maybe a communal area apart from the restaurant would be a good idea.

So glad we made the decision to stay here! Was such a special place to be and will be back one day for sure. We were in the area for 2 nights so we made the decision to stay here one night and another at Tom Price. We are definitely glad we stayed in Tom Price for a night but anymore than 2 nights and I would stay the extra nights here. The staff were all absolutely wonderful, extremely helpful and very knowledgeable of the area. We are dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and the food alone was worth the visit!

We stayed in an en-suite eco tent which was very comfortable. The outdoor bathroom/toilet were better then we expected. The view was glorious. The staff are hard working and very friendly. Our whole experience was really fantastic. To get to the retreat we took the bitumen road from The Visitor Centre which is a little longer but far more comfortable after reading about the long rough corrugated road. Then it turns into the corrugated road for a short 3 km. It was all a wonderful experience.

Staff are the highlight!
It is truly a unique experience. When you take into account the remoteness of this location, it is quite a feat to have access to great food, clean water and a great team of people ready to help you have an enjoyable stay. The tents are quite nice, though not as good or well appointed as the ones you would find on safari in Africa. It can get very cold at night, and with no heating available, the tents can get VERY cold. The team are the highlight of the stay, they are super helpful and very friendly. Shout out to Liz, she is always, cheerful and amazingly remembers all your requests!

This was a sturdy tent with a comfortable bed and attached open air "private" bathroom. I read reviews on this property before booking, so my expectations were low. It was criticized as being over-priced for what you get. True, it is expensive, but considering the remoteness (the nearest town to an hour away) and there are no other accommodations other than for campers, I thought it was reasonable. The on-site restaurant was a big plus, otherwise you bring your own or go to Tom Price an hour away. I'd stay there again for the convenience and proximity to the sights at the park. The staff was also very helpful. Breakfast was very good.

Sehr schön eingerichtete Zelte, auch sauber und ordentlich. Das Personal ist sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Wir konnten immer gekühlte Wasser kostenlos bekommen. Das Frühstück war lecker.

I thought the accommodation was reasonable but the breakfast was poor for the amount of money payed per night. To get a cooked breakfast they were charging $29 for basic eggs. We stayed in the Eco Lodge in the Amazon Jungle and we had a big breakfast with a variety of fruit, cakes and freshly baked bread included in the price. If You want customers to return, you need to give them better service and food. Step up Australia.
