A good place to experience a traditional Japanese Hotel. The place was top notch. The staff and the service they provided were beyond 5 stars. And the Breakfast was to die for.
My niece and I stayed here for one night to experience a traditional Japanese hotel. The staff were very attentive and accommodating. The room was very comfortable. The ryokan is within walking distance of many sights. I would highly recommend staying here!
Loved this place!
The staff are amazing - super friendly and helpful.
The food is great and so much of it
The beds are comfortable and everything is beautifully maintained
Highly recommend
Incredible service, spotless room, fantastic meals.
This was my family's first visit to Kyoto, and staying at Yuzuya Ryokan was a delight. Everything about the ryokan was so well kept and cared for. We arrived before our check-in time, and dropped our luggage off so we could explore Gion a little before dinner service. When we returned, our bags were already moved to our two rooms.
The staff were so accommodating, explaining how to use the rooms, facilities, and wear the Japanese outfits. They spoke enough english to make it easy for us to understand.
Be sure to email them a week or two before arrival to confirm your booking. They may ask about your meal preferences if there is more than one main course option. Avoid eating a late lunch, as the multi-course dinner is very filling. Breakfast the next morning was as impressive as dinner.
Loved every moment of my time there. Happy to stay at Yuzuya Ryokan again the next time I'm in Kyoto.
The staff are amazing, very helpful and informative and friendly. Definitely a more unique experience where they help you get the most out of it! Even the traditional style beds were actually more comfy than some of our more western hotels we stayed at!
I made the right choice to stay here. One of the best experience I had in Kyoto, I wished I booked more than a night. The staff were very welcoming and courteous, they gave me a 5 star service. The room, actually it was more of a suite, was clean. I felt like I was in a different world when I was there because of the set up/ambiance. They also have a great location, just right beside the shrine.
Just don’t bring heavy luggage because of the stairs, I felt bad that they carried my heavy luggage for me. Also, not their fault, the GPS made walked around the shrine when the hotel was just located almost in front the bus stop.

What a wonderful experience! Above and beyond what I expected from a traditional ryokan. Friendly and accommodating service, incredible breakfasts, perfect central location for our first visit to Kyoto. We were a little concerned about sleeping on a futon but it couldn’t have been more comfortable. Highly recommended if you’re looking to stay at a ryokan.
Customer service was amazing, rooms were beautiful, breakfast was luxurious, perfect location, and onsen was great. I would recommend this ryokan to anyone (unless you have mobility issues/physical disabilities due to the stairs).
Fantastic stay steeped in Japanese tradition. Rooms beautiful, welcome wonderful, beds comfortable. Breakfast was amazing, prehaps a bit too much for 2 teenagers, but still amazing and delicious regardless.

Excellent service and wonderful kaiseki breakfast and dinners. Location extremely convenient near many shrines, temples, dining, shopping, transportation. Only downside is facities are on the older side and air conditioner is loud and always on in the room during the summer.
This was a true Japanese experience. The place is magical and the food is amazing. I loved being able to try multiple authentic Japanese dishes in one meal
A fantastic and authentic place right in the heart of Gion and next door to the yasaka shine. Everything about it is considered and beautiful. A true gem in Kyoto. The breakfast is epic. Kimono’s suppled by the ryokan can be worn around the property which is a nice touch. Staff as amazing.
Absolute wonderful Ryokan to harbor at the heart of Gion! From amenities to services to dinings, everything is knitted to the smallest details. Definitely would be back again in the future should availability allows.
Very decent and authentic ryokan. Friendly and efficient staff. Nice food. Neat and environmental friendly. Convenient location. Had a wonderful and enjoyable stay there. Highly recommended!
it was my first time travelling solo and the staff at yuzuya ryokan took great care of me! they explained the general rules of staying at a ryokan, welcomed me on my first morning for breakfast which was beyond delightful! with a wonderful view of the little garden with a waterfall i got to wake up, eating a delicious and big, filling breakfast. they helped me with any question i had and i wish i would've stayed longer.
the location is smazing since its directly next to a big, beautiful park with various shrines and temples, foodstands and more!
i hope that i can return one day!
Good location although hard to find at first as the entrance is a doorway on a main road. Steps up were difficult with our suitcases. Lovely inside and very attentive staff. Room was lovely and beds very comfortable. Wooden bath was unusual but worked fine. Had a Japanese style breakfast in the restaurant which was beautifully presented. Good experience but expensive compared to local hotels.
Great experience of Japanese lifestyle, sleeping in futon beds in a tatami room. Highlight of the stay is the Japanese breakfast , wearing a yukata garb. staff are very helpful. They are like family, assisting us from the start until the end.
Yuzuya Ryokan was one of the highlights of our stay in Kyoto. The service was unbelievable - they stealthily kept our room clean and supplied with fresh water, tea, and snacks at all times without being seen (like ninjas!).
The Japanese breakfast included in our stay was phenomenal (a spread way too big to finish), and they even offered us an "American Style" breakfast as an alternate option for variety. The restaurant is peaceful and gorgeous.
The staff was friendly and helpful (upon checkout, they carried 3 suitcases and 5 bags from our room to the street in less than 2 minutes).
We stayed during the winter months and always walked into a cozy entrance with a heater and incense giving us a warm welcome home.
Lastly, you cannot beat the location - RIGHT next to the entrance of Yasaka Shrine, and steps from old town Gion (we spotted 4 geishas on our first night). Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Located in the center of multiple tourist sites. Walkable locations for sightseeing, shopping, and food. Also walkable to local train station. Easy spot for taxi to pickup if needed transportation to kyoto station or somewhere further. Walkable to many kimono rental stores with next day drop-off return service. Perfect location for planning on visiting multiple sites and return here in-between for a quick rest.
Did I forget the authentic ryokan style rooms with impeccable service? Recommended for an immersuve japanese culture experience.
Only downside is no laundry service for all the walking and changing clothes after dipping in own bath.
