Las Baulas National Marine Park Tours

There is excellent bird and wildlife watching in the park. The nearby Tamarindo Wildlife Refuge, a salt water mangrove estuary, is thick with black-bellied whistling ducks, roseate spoonbills, yellow-crowned night herons, kingfishers and crocodiles. Howler monkeys, raccoons and coatimundis are also frequently spotted.

Saw turtle nesting here. Was fantastic. Saw 3 turtles...one building a nest but unfortunately she hit a rock and didn't lay her eggs. Also the lack of light pollution makes the night sky awe inspiring.

If you have the energy, you will definitely want to take a water taxi at the end of Tamarindo beach across to the estuary. It was $1 across. It will take an hour and a half to walk to the end of all the other beaches along the park but it is very worth it. The sights were breath taking! We saw a family of howler monkeys and a crocodile on our own. Many beautiful sea shells and crabs to see on your journey. There was a black sand beach when we kept walking further. Amazing waves. It was a life changing experience!
