A stay in the Past can be so modern.

We spent two nights at La Bastide Rose. It was like going back in time, staying at a French Bourgeois House, with classic furniture and attention to details. Of course, it is important to say that this was the house where Pierre Salinger (Kennedy's adviser) spent his last years (the little museum is very worth visiting). The garden (being that in front of the Bastide or the one on the island sandwiched between the Sorgue river) had a permanent exhibitions of sculptures that were pleasing the eye. The team (from the owner Poppie to the manager Marie) was very friendly and made you feel even more at home. We like Emmanuel's food (Poppie's son) so much ("farm to table" type of thing) that we decided to have dinner both nights. The wine selection was also very carefully crafted. I would definitely stay there again, and will recommend it to our friends.

A welcoming delight in Provence!

The Bastide Rose is a charming country house with easy access to the beautiful towns of Provence, especially l'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue for its famous Sunday market. The rooms are charming and the staff friendly and helpful. The restaurant run by the owners son is excellent for dinner.

Et le temps s'est arrêté....

C'est un endroit très paisible, l'accueil y est vraiment chaleureux et on s'y sent bien. Les repas étaient délicieux et le service très soigné. Le cadre est magnifique; les fleurs, les arbres et la rivière rendent cet endroit bucolique. Les oeuvres d'art exposées dans le parc contribuent à l'originalité du lieu. Le musée et les expositions sont intéressants. Nous y retournerons sans hésiter.

If you do not know anyone in Provence, this is as close as you will come.

This is a lovely inn in a beautiful setting near Avignon. The owner and her son, the chef run a friendly, impeccably appointed inn very close to Avignon and Chateau Neuf des Papes wineries. We tried the fixed prix dinner the first evening with the thought that we would go elsewhere other evenings, but decided that we could do no better than the dinner at the inn.

Blissful interlude in great Provence location

We expected nice; we found heavenly at La Bastide Rose. The gorgeously-restored old mill is full of Mme. Salinger's family antiques and some very fine modern art - inside and out. The achingly-beautiful grounds and surrounding countryside posed only one problem: it was so hard to leave it to to go out and tour the nearby Luberon, Vaucluse, and Avignon, Poppy is a charmer, meals were a delight, and the website claim of its being "not a hotel but a home of friends" was pretty close to the mark for us. We loved it and hope to return.
