Very nice resort/spa for quiet relaxation.

We highly recommend Madre Tierra for a relaxing vacation. Everything was top notch from the staff, including excellent, from scratch, delicious meals. The lush setting, nestled in the hills away from town was delightful. We also enjoyed a massage. The only negative was very slow internet. Everything else was excellent!

Great place!

My husband and I stayed 2 nights and had a wonderful time! We upgraded our room for a better view and larger room and thoroughly enjoyed our visit! Gail and her entire staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and ensure we had a good time. Rooms and facilities are very clean. They arranged a wonderful horseback riding trip, made return transportation reservations for us to Cuenca, and even found a nice hostal for us in Cuenca ( when we had been having difficulties reserving). Free breakfast includes delicious homemade bread. Vilcabamba is a lovely small town in a beautiful valley. It is a 15 minute or $1.00 taxi ride away from Madre Tierre. Wish we had a longer time to stay-thanks again to everyone!

Hotel Madre Tierra--Friendly, safe, pleasant

We stayed two nights at Hotel Madre Tierra. We had Unit #5, which has a charming balcony with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and a hammock for enjoying a relaxing afternoon. The hotel is a five or ten minute walk into Vilcabamba or a $1.00 taxi ride. We arrived in Vilcabamba from Loja by taxi, a $15 ride. The cab driver did not have any trouble locating the hotel after inquiring in town and discovering we had passed it just before Vilcabamba. Plantings on the grounds are lush and tropical. These, with the fountains and tiered pools, make for a calming, lovely setting. The food is quite good and the staff very helpful. Most speak English and the new owners and manager are very welcoming. Because the cabins are in a wooded setting, an occasional insect might appear, but the bedding and bath are clean and comfortable. Showers were hot. We would definitely consider staying here again on our next visit to Vilcabamba.
