"Overall it’s a nice hotel, only complaint really is we booked a couples massage in the “spa” only to find out the spa is under construction and they just had massage tables set up in a hotel room which we weren’t aware of. We walked around lost for about 15 minutes looking for the spa and even the front desk people couldn’t tell us where it was just that it was in a room. We finally found where to go but we’re super late to our massage so just less time for us. Better communication would have been appreciated. "

"The ambience of Hawaii really does a lot for this hotel. The property is old and starting to fall apart. The rooms are decent and have great views from the balconies, but the bathrooms are the type you will find at a motel. The hallways smell like vomit at random times of the day at night. The staff is very average. The food in the restaurant downstairs and the bar is very mediocre. That being said, there is beautiful foliage everywhere and the property is right on the water, so the place looks magical at any time of day. I'll probably pick a nicer place in the future. But for my first time to hawaii, I really enjoyed the experience!"

"The Guest Services staff was incredibly helpful and courteous. Always willing to help. The condo unit was clean and provides all amenities needed - from pool towels to dish soap. If you need anything additional they are happy to provide. The bed was very comfortable. Unit was a little outdated but worked for us. There are Bbqs all over the property to use and are cleaned daily. Restaurant had a daily happy hour and live music every night. Highly recommend for all ages!"

"3 minutes from the NP entrance… Well maintained and clean. Somewhat surprising, didn’t see anybody during my stay but full info was provided beforehand. One slight criticism wb the lack of A/C. Not sure it is safe to open the windows at night. Overall- very good and recommended. Thanks"

"The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, cookware, and dishes. Washer and dryer were conveniently located however the dryer took an unusually long time to dry clothes."

"Holua Resort is a comfortable, family‑friendly property that delivers a relaxing stay on the Big Island. The grounds are lush and well maintained, and the pool and surrounding facilities are inviting and peaceful. Our two‑story unit was **spacious** and thoughtfully laid out, with plenty of room to spread out, a functional kitchen, and comfortable sleeping areas that worked well for a longer stay. That said, the décor and finishes do feel a bit dated, so manage your expectations if you’re looking for something very modern. The one real downside was the layout of the resort itself: parking can be quite far from the units, and we found ourselves hauling luggage a long way in the rain, through areas with standing water, which was inconvenient on arrival and departure. Overall, though, the friendly atmosphere, quiet setting, and roomy accommodations made it a very pleasant stay and a place we’d consider returning to with just a bit of logistical planning."

"Overall it was a good spot for one night. Super clean with nice amenities. However, to check in you have to arrive within a certain time and pick up and return the key at the True Value a short drive away. No potable water, but they provided a jug of bottled water. We arrived at the end of check-in time frame and it was rainy and foggy, so finding the checkin spot was challenging. TV is in a little sitting room. We didn’t shower because when you first turn on the water in the basin it was bluish. Not sure what that was all about. In the morning you can easily hear your neighbors in adjacent rooms. We stayed just one night and it met our needs given how few lodging options are in Volcano. We run and Airbnb, my suggestion is to purchase coded locks and make check-in simple and fix the water situation."

"A quiet spot located just a couple miles from Volcanoes National Park. We stayed 2 nights so we could see the park. The room and restaurant were very clean and staff were great"

"It is very hard to locate the property. The management said that even Uber sometimes has trouble finding it. The pools are small but very clean. The rooms were huge. Not at all crowded. Definitely need a car. Would definitely come back."
