Comfy beds. Great location in South Melbourne. Convenient access to metro line and walking distance to St Kilda and Pranhan. Free laundry was awesome. Bathroom could use a little reno. Internet access a bit slow

It was a small hotel so fairly personal- small enough to care. The only thing was the washing machine and dryer was out of order.

A real find. Decor may be a little dated but the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed, the staff are excellent and it’s blissfully quiet but close to the city

A Hidden Gem in South Yarra
If you want to experience Melbourne without staying in the hustle and bustle of downtown then The Lyall Hotel and Spa is well worth considering. It is located in a quiet street off Toorak Rd, a short walk to Chapel St, with plenty of great restaurants and cafes nearby. We had a beautiful meal at Cucinetta's, a cosy little Italian restaurant just across the road from the hotel. The Royal Botanical Gardens are also a short walk away, great for a morning walk or run. Getting into the city was a breeze - South Yarra train station is 5 mins walk away and it is a quick two stops to Flinders St station. Our hotel room was tidy and spacious, with a handy kitchenette for preparing breakfasts and simple meals. The only negative was the bathroom mirror light was broken which meant my wife had to use the mirror in the lounge to put on her makeup and shaving in dim light was a bit difficult. We alerted the front desk about this on the first morning of our stay but it had not been repaired by the end of our 4 night stay. Apart from this issue the service was excellent. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, especially the person who checked us in late at night and welcomed us with a complimentary tea service. Would happily stay here again on our next trip to Melbourne!

Our favourite hotel in Melbourne - great location (close to restaurants and shops) and very convenient to Sth Yarra train station and tram stop (3mins walk). On this stay the Nespresso machine and clothes washer/dryer were no longer in the room, and the dishwasher was not working. Clearly some money has to be spent keeping this property up to scratch, instead of resting on (past) laurels. Staff are excellent, and they are THE best asset of the Lyall. Ray Choy

I have noted in your history that you would like one in your room and will ensure it is setup prior to your arrival. The hotel has also removed washing machines from the rooms but we still has laundry facilities available within the hotel. We have setup a separate room with washing and drying machines within the hotel which is free for guest use. The Hotel is also in the planning stages for refurbishment and looking to begin this process in 2020. It’s wonderful to see that you found all staff to be helpful. am not happy about reception cashing the $100 deposit without reason or authorisation, please reverse the charge, or will claim it back through amex but will not consider staying there again!!!!.

Exceeded Expectations
The Lyall Hotel was amazing - the rooms are large, well appointed and sparkling clean. I'd particularly like to thank Romain from the front desk for his excellent service. The location is also wonderful, with little boutique grocery stores, wine shops and pharmacies a 2-5 minute walk from the property. No one will regret staying at the Lyall Hotel, it far and away exceeded my expectations.

It's a great little boutique hotel. Rooms are huge and beds comfortable. My only criticism is that the shower kept flooding and ironing board which was in a drawer very fiddly and difficult to use

Very spacious rooms , clean and with good facilities. Good location for exploring the city , close to metro and lovely walk through gardens . Very useful to have your own kitchenette/ dining if your traveling for a while .

Better stay in a park bench
We booked a deluxe suite. The room we got was more like a motel room in the side of a truckers highway. The room was 2.5 X 3.5 m the bathroom shower with no screen, so water everywhere. 1 bath towel. They upgraded me to a better room the next day when I screamed at the reception for defending the room. Revolting hotel, staff, food.

I chose to stay here because of the spa. The spa itself was fine, but I wouldn't say it was exquisite. I was hoping for more of a spa experience as I have had at other spa hotels in the US, but the massage and facial was very good. The area is very nice. I didn't have a car but was able to walk to lots of different restaurants and two movie theaters nearby. The room was a small apartment and had everything I needed. Very comfortable bed and bath. I did work on my computer in the room and it was quiet and comfortable. If I come back I would come again.
