In the foreground is the fountain of the Old Mission Santa Barbara. This fountain was built in 1806 by the local Chumash Indians under the guidance of the Franciscans and is older than much of the main building which, most recently, had the two towers rebuilt in 1927 following earthquake damage.
The Santa Barbara Mission is known as the “Queen of the Missions” and considered the most beautiful of the 21 built in California. It was patterned after an ancient Latin chapel in pre-Christian Rome. #california #santabarbara #mission #history #architecture

Love the Old Miission. It felt bigger than the other missions that we have visited in the past.
