I really could not fault this stay. We checked in late due to a late flight and they went out of their way to make sure this wasn’t a problem. The location was amazing with great views. The room was large and the breakfast was excellent and changed every day. I honestly could not rate this hotel high enough, nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect.
We chose Hotel Montegrino Lake View largely because of the Expedia photographs and reviews, which created an impression of a modern hotel with good facilities and beautiful views. Unfortunately, our experience was very different.
To be fair, our room was clean and the lake view from the balcony was lovely. However, the hotel itself was very basic, dated and tired, with little décor or comfort. There was no shower gel or hand soap, and the bedding consisted of sheets and an old brown blanket rather than a proper duvet.
The balcony had a beautiful view but old table and chairs, with an ashtray on the table despite the hotel being advertised as non-smoking. The exterior was also unkempt, with old-looking garden furniture.
Parking was poor, with crates being used to reserve spaces for later-arriving guests, and we were told to park “like at a supermarket”.
There is no restaurant. Shortly before arrival we were emailed to say this and advised to bring a picnic. The narrow mountain road to the hotel is also challenging with a large car, particularly when meeting another vehicle or tractor.
We were so disappointed that we left one day early, at our own expense, and found alternative accommodation.
The photographs on Expedia certainly show the hotel at its best, but in our experience they gave a much more modern and attractive impression than the reality. The view is beautiful, but overall this property did not meet the expectations created by its Expedia listing.
If you are looking for a quiet affordable quality hotel close to Lago Maggiore this is the hotel. It is located almost on the top of a hillside near Lago Maggiore with a fantastic view to the lake. The quietness of the hotel and garden is stunning and you can experience the wildlife in the garden.
This is an absolute gem of a Hotel. The setting is amazing, the area outstandingly beautiful, And the owner/manager was one of the most helpful and friendly people we met on our trip. I can’t thank him enough. I will definitely be returning. !!!
We had a very pleasant stay overall. The hotel has a charming retro style, and while the rooms are a bit older, they are well maintained and have a lot of character. What stood out the most was the hospitality. The owner and staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and always happy to help, which made the whole stay feel very personal.
There is plenty of parking available, and the hotel is very pet friendly. There is also a nice garden and lots of outdoor space, which made it perfect for walking our dog.
A couple of things to keep in mind are that our room did not have air conditioning, so during warmer summer days, especially from late June onward, the room can get quite hot, particularly if two or three people are staying in one room. Also, the drive up to the hotel is very typical for Italy, with some narrower and tighter roads along the way, so it is something to be aware of when arriving by car.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a welcoming and relaxing place near Lake Maggiore.
We recently stayed at a charming family-run hotel, and I wanted to share my experience. The owners and their family were incredibly warm and welcoming. The breakfast was also delicious! I had a wonderful time and would highly recommend it. 😊
Very friendly welcome including a free drink on arrival, and very generous breakfast. The couple who run the hotel were lovely and very kind to our little dog Frank! The hotel is in a beautiful and quiet location but just 15 minutes in the car there is a town with everything you would need. Will definitely be back again! Thank you!
