Location : around 10 min walk from the JR station to the pier where the hotel provides free shuttle bus/ ferry pick up service.
Room: nice size and view. Rather old style But i consider it reasonable as it is an old hotel.
Onsen : I love the cave onsen. Very rare. This is the most beautiful features at the hotel.
Meals: buffet style. I always prefer kaiseki style. But it is a big hotel with a lot of guests. Buffer style is easy to manage .
Staff: nice and helpful
Recommended for good value for money
Lovely hotel for after your hikes. The onsens were nice. The temperature was perfect for me. It is a dated hotel but i think the amenities were still good. You also get a free bath salt for completing 3 of the onsens. The staff were very nice and accommodating. You can leave your luggage even before check in and I was able to access the rooftop or mountain observatory. The buffet dinner and breakfast has a lot of variety so I think everyone has something for them there
Loved the hotel, it was very traditional, not a lot of foreigners, food was great, service was wonderful and onsens spectacular.

The cave onsens are wonderful and we loved our breakfast looking out at the rocky coast and crashing waves at breakfast. The hotel is a 1960s throw-back and well-maintained and very reasonably priced. Great hiking on Kumano Kodo nearby and sightseeing.
the place is an island on it's own and looks like a James Bond villain base from the outside. Inside it's got so many baths and just cool areas to explore. The room itself is comfortable and there's even a little convenience store near the front desk so you can get room snacks easily. I picked up some of the pickled plum udon noodles to cook at home and they were delicious!
Meals are a little crowded as they're buffet style but the food itself is amazing and so many different things to try.
I recommend coming here at least once and staying two nights if you can.
Beautiful views from the top viewpoints of the hotel. Turn-down service was excellent. A very large property so it can be a long walk navigating the property. Multiple onsens, the cave onsens are fantastic and amazing view.
Huge hotel a 5 minute ferry ride from town. We stayed in a spacious Japanese room with fantastic ocean views. The onsen was amazing, in a cave right next to the ocean where you could watch waves crashing while bathing. Buffet breakfast and dinner were good.
When I first tried this hotel, I used the daily use onsen.
I fee; in love with the cave onsen. We now stay at least two nights ove night to use the floor 33 onsen as well as the cave onsen. They have a nice breakfast and dinner buffet. We like the Western style room with western beds as well as a living room/dining room that you can have the Japanese futons.
Amazing stay - especially the cave onsen and the views on top of the mountains; the retro classical video games next to the cafeteria also bring back lots of memories

Nice view with amenities.
The room and infrastructure is a bit outdated and feel the age
This hotel was amazing. A sprawling property built into the side of a mountain. So many onsen. The cave onsen were spectacular. There were many restaurants, convenience store, shops and an arcade.
this hotel is so big that it is a hotel complex, it even has a connivence store. friendly staff, well managed, many hot spring to choose from, include two cave pools located next to the ponding waves. very special place, i like it. only downside is you have to take the free shuttle boat to the hotel (last boat is 7:30pm, after that you have to take taxi).
Either the car or ferry were prompt in picking people up. The hotel is beautiful, and the food was delicious. I loved going to dinner in my slides and yukata. Service and amenities were top notch, the onsen was a once in a lifetime experience. The town itself is charming.

Relaxing stay
Big hotel with many rooms. Huge breakfast and dinner. The hotel standard was a bit old, but the main attraction were the different onsen. There's a good view from above the hotel, but most of it was under renovation. The same with the escalator.

Unique Japanese onsen
A very unique experience with the cave onsen. The hotel was once a glamorous resort but now is tired and run down. Dinner buffet offers a good variety of food. Room has a fantastic view look out to the bay and ocean. It seems to be a popular resort for the locals.
For those who are looking to luxuriate in the onsens of the Kii península… This is a place not to be missed. The cave onsens, especially, were both gorgeous and healing… The other ones perhaps a bit rundown, but still quite a treat. The staff were great (and multi-lingual) and my room was squeaky clean. Highly recommend

Great hotel in a cute fishing town. The decor is very dated but this added to the experience for us. We opted for a Japanese style room looking over the ocean. The room was big and the view was great. Evening buffet was fine. We didn’t try the breakfast option. Used both the boat and shuttle to get to and from the hotel and both worked well.
Last year I tried their wonderful onsen that faces the sea.
It was fantastic. When I returned to Japan, I made reservations at this hotel and upgraded to a room that had an ocean view. It was fantastic. The room included a half board which is breakfast and dinner. Staff are helpful. The room was very clean and quiet.
There weren’t a lot of hotels to choose from in the area, and we went with Urashima because we didn’t want to spend $700/night at the other place. All of the hotel workers were incredibly friendly, nice, and helpful. However, the hotel itself is outdated and showing its age. Our hotel room, although it had a nice view, had a strong musty smell that was hard to get over. There were stains on the ceiling and floor. The hotel complex is massive but everywhere is just a little gross. The cave onsen is very cool though and worth a dip, but if you’re looking for western style breakfast options, I wouldn’t recommend the buffet. Kiikatsuura needs better hotel options overall.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel food offerings in the main restaurant were very varied and catered for a wide range of tastes and were well presented and served.
The hotel wasn’t in the condition we expected however, we had to change rooms from the broken and dirty ones we were first allocated. The whole place has an air of needing much renovation. One corridor was covered in mould and was like a scene from a fairground ghost ride. The whole area stank of sulphur which was explainable but kept out of descriptions we had read.
Simply put - the two cave onsen at this hotel are fantastic. And indeed, there are several other onsen pools to choose from too.
I was lucky to go when the sea was quite rough, and sitting at the front of the cave onsen, soaking in the hot spring while watching the waves breaking on the rocks outside was a really soul satisfying experience.
The hotel itself is like a wild bubble-era project and is simply huge with plenty to explore.
It was hard to take it all in - I was really absorbed just wandering around.
The (seemingly) endless escalator ride up to the adjoining hotel block was a bit unique to try too.
There is a helpful mini-bus and turtle themed ferry to and from the town centre ( only 10 minutes walk from station to ferry / bus) and it runs frequently.
Can’t say there there were many dining options within the hotel itself, the breakfast and evening buffet are just fine plus two extra small cafe style casual restaurants on-site.
No bar or coffee shop ( but you can sit in and eat snacks / coffee at the on-site Lawsons convenience store. Nothing gourmet - come for the onsen, not for dining. (though some decent small dining places in town if you wish to hop over on the ferry and back)
The room was huge with a nice sea view in our case. Futon style sleeping was comfortable.
Everything clean and working.
All in all - lovely!
I and my wife had a very memorable break here.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The outdoor spa, especially the ones with ocean views are exceptional. The dining hall is huge. The breakfast and dinner buffets provide high quality and many varieties of food. Shuttle ferry / bus are convenient. The sunrise and sunset at the viewing platform are beautiful.
