We loved our stay at Wafu Pension MIYAZAWA! The staff were super friendly and helpful, great breakfast and dinner options, ski/board gear hire, easy 3 min walk to main gondola, cozy rooms and everything you need for a snow holiday in a traditional guest house setting!
We had a great one night over Christmas at Wafu Pension.
The staff was super friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. It had a stunning early morning view with soft-coloured mountains.
The breakfast was half buffet style, due to allergy I was happy with the option not to take the things I couldn't eat.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Comfy and cosy place to stay with a quite traditional Japanese flavour. Convenient to Nagasaka Gondala and ski hire places. Staff were very friendly and helpful but the shared bathroom facilities were a bit limited. Breakfast was an additional cost (it was a reasonable price) but ideally should have been included in the room cost.
When we came to Japan we wanted to know what the Japanese lifestyle was like. We wanted to remove our shoes at the door, sleep on futons that we had to pull out, eat at a low table, what it might be like at a Japanese bath house, eat traditional Japanese food. This Inn provided it all. It was also very convenient in terms of renting snowboarding gear, walking to the slopes and walking to the onsens. I can not recommend this inn enough. Don’t let the shared bathrooms scare you because during my stay I didn’t run into a single soul while using the facilities. You can also purchase breakfast there and I highly recommend it. The morning salmon was probably some of the best fish I’ve had. You can also purchase a hot pot dinner with all you can eat salad bar. We did the regional beef and the sauce you make it with is amazing. I always felt welcomed and the inn owner is an awesome guy and one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.
The best thing about this place is its location, very close to the Nagasaka gondola lift and main ticket office. I also like the fact that I could rent my ski equipment right from the hotel, and stow the rentals onsite at a designated area. Every morning after eating breakfast at the lodge, I put on the gears and just needed to walk 5 minutes to get to the lift and hit the slope. The hotel is a family run business, probably from owner’s own house but it has everything a skier could hope for - good breakfast and dinner with very reasonable prices; the owner is very approachable and always willing to help customers in need; his wife and staff in kitchen are also super nice and very helpful. An intern working in kitchen even spoke excellent English, which is rare in Japan, and provided superior services.
Onsen bath onsite is free to all customers, so are two washing machines and driers. The owner provided the laundry detergent so you don’t need to worry about bringing your own. Some places you pay to do laundry but not this one. Like most of Japanese hotels, real estate spaces are limited and not all rooms have a private toilet. I booked early and paid a bit more to get my own private toilet in the room, which turned out to be well worth it. No private shower in the guest room but that didn’t bother me at all as the shower room and onsen (hot spring room ) are mostly available or with a short wait.
Overall, I loved my 4 nights stay there and definitely would book it again.
Wafu was a lovely little comfortable ryokan. It was shared facilities that were kept extremely clean. It had everything we needed for our stay. The owner and staff were very friendly and very helpful.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to others.
Note the place was a little noisy at night but generally settled by 10.30.
Our family enjoyed our stay in Wafu Pension MIYAZAWA. The staff were excellent and even took us to the bus with all our luggage during s snow storm. It is a great place to stay with close access to the ski lifts and restaurants.
Great little hotel in Japanese style. Rooms were very clean and warm and while the futon Bed was very firm (in true Japanese style), I got used to it and slept well. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended place to stay.
We loved our stay at Wafu Pension. We loved the traditional Japanese experience. Masaki was always very helpful. The breakfast was fine and quick. The hire equipment was excellent. And its a great location, just a short 5 minute walk to the gondola.
The property is not easy to find as it's not signed. You are also charged ¥300 for each towel which I found very strange especially after we had paid extra for an ensuite bathroom and then pay for towels to use it
