"We stayed for 4 nights in this excellent hotel and took the room upgrade offered by the desk at check-in at minimal additional cost. This gave us a large room overlooking the courtyard with an excellent bathroom with separate bath and walk in shower. There was a separate loo off the entrance corridor. It was almost like a suite and benefitted from having two doors between the bedroom and the main hallway.
It was very well furnished had generous stowage and space for luggage, that meant it was neat and uncluttered with everything squared away. The beds were very comfortable. Above all it was quiet. We never heard a thing and slept very well.
The hotel is beautifully decorated in an understated style but showcases its historic features. Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, King Henry VIII of England and King Francis I of France all met here in 1546 (when it was a monastery not an hotel). It is situated in secluded, well-maintained gardens. There are two restaurants, a bar and a very well appointed spa.
The staff were charming and helpful and all spoke good English - which is pretty much normal in the Netherlands anyway. We ate in the Brasserie and the food was first class. As it is well-placed in the town centre, other dining options were available only minutes away. All were of a good standard. "
