Staff was helpful

When I arrived the hotel staff was very accomadating to my needs as well as friendly.

Not Howard Johnson

No longerHoward Johnson. Recommend new carpet and doors. Surprisingly, the bathroom was clean. Friendly staff. Glad I only stayed one night.

fairly well

Overall a nice hotel, the room was great not what I expected for the price. I had the address which made it easy to find since the name had changed.

BED BUGS

I do not recommend this hotel because it has bed bugs infestation. My daughter was bitten; it was a nightmare, and we had to leave immediately after finding them.

Not Impressed

The hotel is going under renovation to be converted to a Holiday Inn franchise hotel. The ice maker machine wasn't working on the floor that I lived in. Same for a couple of others as you can see customers walking to lobby asking for ice and complaining about the non-working ice makers. I guess the owner has no intention to fix those broken ice machine and elevators, etc...for the moment till the renovation work kicks in.

A hotel in transition

The hotel must have changed its name in the month between the time I booked and the time of my travel. It is no longer the Howard Johnson, which makes it difficult to find since there is no sign. The hotel can't quite seem to figure out its branding. The invoice and soaps for example have Howard Johnson logos, while some other items in the room have the new name on it. My room keycard was presented in a blank envelope from an office supply store, and then I was handed a business card with the hotel's address. Why not just close the place and re-open when things are 100% ready? Next, there is poor signage throughout. When you drive in, there are no signs for hotel registration (only for the conference center), so I drove around the property twice since the hotel consists of a complex of 6 buildings. The hotel was probably great in the 1990s, but now it's just a property in need of modernization (they even had a DSL modem in each room for internet access, which is primitive and something I have not seen even when traveling in developing countries). There are many other hotels within walking distance, and I recommend choosing those instead.

worth the money spent

The pool is smaller than the picture leads you to believe...well the inside pool. The room was clean no complaints. outside in the hall ways could use some improvements bc it looked kind of old and worn. the room itself was amazing. the bed super comfortable with poofy pillows. the bathroom was a very good size and clean. the location is about 45 mins away from VA beach bc you have to allow time for tunnel traffic. there are many places to eat along the way and rigt across the street is a huge outlet mall. plenty of things to keep you busy.

Howard Johnson in Hampton, Va

First off the hotel is no longer call Howard Johnson, it's call Peninsula. So it was hard to find. The reason why I wouldn't recommend this hotel because there were many other choices and this one was a bad one. The hotel claims to have high speed internet which is not true. My work requires me to connect to their network via the internet and it doesn't take much speed. My connection in the hotel was worse than dial up. I have DSL at home and the hotel made my home connection feel like super cable. So if you need internet for work or business this is NOT the place for you. We also found a dead roach in the carpeting next to the bed. So it makes me wonder if they even clean up the room well.

I have stayed at this hotel previously and chose to stay again. The grounds are very nice and the staff very kind and accomodating. The restaurant in the hotel is no longer open, but there are a few local spots nearby for sit-down or drive through food. The beds were very comfortable but the decor is a little worn and dated, albeit clean. Internet service in the business center was down. Overall, I like this hotel and will continue to stay here on my visits to Hampton.

Quality Inn turned Howard Johnson Plaza

The hotel was very nice. The front curb appeal was beautiful!! Only thing was...I had trouble finding it because "Quality Inn" was still on the outside of the hotel inside of the correct name "Howard Johnson". I also did not like the idea of having a view of the INSIDE pool when I opened the curtain.

Where to begin?????

Well for starters this hotel's name is not Howard Johnson, it is Poly..sumthing...would of been a great help if I would of known that. Used a GPS and went past the hotel like 3 times, finally decided to turn in was very confused. Booked a smoking room, gave me the wrong room.Had to reload everything, and I have a 2 year old with me...Moved me upstairs...Room was hot, asked for additional pillows they have 3 lilttle throw pillows on the bed, never received them in my 2 day stay, room was hot had to go buy a fan for the room...my son was calling the indoor pool a bathtub it was so hot. The pictures they show for you to see must be some from maybe when they first opened...thought I had stepped into the hood....it looked like the projects, needs major updating...if it wasnt for the fact that it was non refundable I would of left.The only good thing about this hotel is that it is pretty close to the beach and places to eat, and the bed was pretty confortable, need to replace carpet, floors look dirty, as did the whole place pretty much. Word of advice the costumer service in this area at fast food places sucks. I got my food quicker going to a Dennys there then I did going to a Wendys...crazy.

Under Renovation

I checked out after one day of staying here. The outside of the hotel is not maintained. There is tall grass and the place looks abandoned. The rooms are very old and the tv in my room was all static except for 4 channels. The restaurant was shut down when I checked in so no room service was available. I would not reccomend this hotel

Unable to access telephone to call front desk

At 10:00pm I tried to call the front desk to have a question answered. I had to use my cell phone to call and was told needed to secure with credit card.I told her someone could have said that to me when I checked in. Like I wanted to leave my room, walk to the front desk, and return to my room. Needless to say I didn't do it and won't return to this hotel...

Face lift bacdly needed

The sad part of this is I actually like the hotel BUT, the place has not been kept very well it seems the current owners are not in the business of investing in their property. This hotel would be great if simple changes were made like replacing the carpet, furniture, flooring, and some fresh paint on the walls. The pools are dirty the outside pool is the cleanest the inside pool was disgusting but people still used it. If you have small children do not take them to this hotel. My daughter is 8 months old and she caught a virus while we were here over the weekend and I know it came from the lack of cleanliness in the hotel room because she has not been sick in her 8 months of life. Also the bathrooms are so small you cannot sit on the toilet and reach the toilet paper at the same time. Overall the room gave me the willies again, this would be a great hotel with the necessary TLC applied.

The hotel is falling apart and shoould be closed for renovations. The shower sprayed all over the ceiling and flooded the room outside of the shower. The desk lamp didn't work and the door handle to the room was falling off. A few times we couldn't get in and had to walk around to the other door. We couldn't even get maid service because they said they were to full and overwelmed.

安さ爆発

喫煙室をリクエストしたところ、中庭、プールに面した一階の部屋で、環境が良かった。外に椅子も置いてあり、ベランダ感覚で楽しめました。アメリカの祭日のため３連休で家族連れが多く来ていました。ベッドは大型でクッションも良く、よく眠れました。高級ホテルとは違い、格安の国民宿舎的な感覚ですが十分満足しました。設備としては洗面台の栓の開け閉めが出来なかったりしましたが、バスタブ付でその他は問題ありませんでした。ロケーションも良くて道路の反対側には大型のショッピングモールが出来たばかりで買い物も楽しめました。又来る機会があれば、また泊まりたいと思います。

Very noisy...party going on next room and barely slept all night. Ground outside not well kept up. I will defenitly pay more for a better place next trip out of town.
