Suitably located for my needs with a nearby riverside walk into the city centre. Warm and comfortable overnight stay at a very reasonable rate.

A good base just outside with an excuse to walk along the river into town (it not too flooded!). Called the prooerty about parking up about 1-2hrs early in their car park as had travelled quite far, and there are restrictions to parking so unclear if we were going to get a ticket for parking up early but someone responded and they ok'd and no issues. Room had really high ceilings and was nice, furnishings ok, the shower cubicle was small - so warning for anyone who isn't small or any intending on going 2-up in the shower because it's definately not an option in the room we had. Would stay again.

Loved it here! Great staff at every interaction, and our accommodation was MASSIVE for 5 people. We basically had our own apartment. Some furnishings were a bit dated, but in a charming way! Lovely place. Being above the bar meant for a great chance to socialize with people. Will recommend to everyone passing through, and will definitely be back.

Very convenient location with parking. Interesting old pub building. Pleasant staff. Heating in room weird; the room radiator was cold but the bathroom towel rail was on full 24/7! Could have done with larger mugs in the room for tea. We did not have breakfast so can't comment on that.

Dont stay here
Needed a cheap quick overnight stay. Extremely basic. Old. Noisy. It felt unsafe The lock on the door not adequate Building felt abandoned after hours Noisy from pub below Headache from fresh paint from pub reno below the room Radiator kept me up all night god knows if it needs bleeding but it was so noisy Pillow cases on bed stained Duvet cover stained I wish i hadnt booked this room. Worst place ive ever stayed. Isnt fit for purpose. Price for double room advertised as 50£ but somehow ive been invoiced and paid £55 I could have got a premier inn for less and been happy

Small room, no table for drinks tray and kettle only a mantelpiece from which kettle lead does not reach down to the plug socket so you have to boil the kettle on the floor. The room smells foisty and damp, and the walls and ceiling in the bathroom have numerous areas of furry black mould spores, as well as on the windows and frames. The extractor fan is blocked with clumps of fluff and shower head is dirty and has mould and hair on it. Even the tv remote is so old that all the button labels have worn off and the battery cover is missing, highlighting that this is more like being in a charitable hostel than a paying guest B&B because it is so poorly cleaned and maintained, of a very low quality and hygiene standard and thus hugely overpriced. During our stay the room was not cleaned nor towels replaced, evidenced by the peanuts and crumbs that were on the floor when we arrived and most probably still remain. If the rooms at the Lighthorseman were about £25 then they probably would be more realistic for someone on a really tight budget looking for a room only stay and prepared to accept somewhat unhygienic slightly cramped conditions as a trade off for the low price, but at £70 without breakfast or reasonable comfort as a B&B the Lighthorseman falls incredibly short to the point of actually being offensive and a rip off.

Nice friendly pub to stop in close to city centre. Good bus service for when it poured down.

Our stay started of with a blocked unusable toilet. On further inspection the room was in a poor state one of our children shut the door to the bedroom to have the handle come off in his hand, bath surround was warped and broken, pull out bed was unusable as it was so hard and had lots of unknown stains on so my daughter ended up sleeping on the floor. The whole room just felt dirty and unclean wouldn't recommend to anyone, if we had not had pre-paid activities booked in York we would of gone home.

Lovely hotel.
Hotel was very well situated, only 10-15 walk to town centre. There was free parking. Our room was small, but comfortable. Could have done with a chair, but we only stayed 2 nights. Full length mirror we ease of access to sockets.

Staff super friendly and helpful, room was really clean (a little dated but excellent value for money) and warm (despite it being very cold out!). Nice touch having the travel plug/USB in the room. Great location - not as noisy as being central but still walking distance with easy access to river path for the morning walk! It's an older property so if you are a very light sleeper, take ear plugs. Would definitely stay again.

The room we had was ok for a weekend away. Only 10 minutes steady walk into the town centre. The staff were polite, the drinks in the bar were quite cheap. We both had a cooked breakfast at a cost of £12.50 each. It was ok but probably better to walk into town to M&S or similar for better food and cost. Overall, one of the cheaper places to stay and only 10 mins from town. If you want plush and fancy then you’ll be around £400 for 2 nights not the £250 we paid.

Lovely traditional hotel.
From the time I arrived until the time I left I was made to feel welcome. Brilliant traditional pub with a good selection of drinks. Excellent food and all reasonably priced. Would stay again.

Enjoyable stay
Lovely old-fashioned Victorian pub with accommodation. Our room had a four poster double bed, tea/coffee making facilities, a really comfy bed, TV and en-suite bathroom. The room was spotlessly clean, warm and cosy (it was cold & rainy outside). We had breakfast the following morning, which was lovely. The host and other staff were welcoming and friendly and the checking in process was very easy. We will definitely stay here again when we revisit York.

Fine stay, room for improvement.
I stayed for two nights in a single room. The cost was the best I could find with York being so expensive to stay in and around! On arrival I was shown to my room by a lovely man (he didn’t introduce himself so I don’t know his name!). He told me about breakfast but due to my conference I was leaving too early each day to try. I also didn’t eat in the pub but the menu read well and was reasonably priced. The single room was small, as expected but had what I needed, bed, wardrobe, small tv, kettle, hairdryer and bathroom. The bathroom needed a good scrub, especially in the shower. The bed was creaky but sheets appeared clean. There was damp on the ceiling, and the room smelt a little fusty but not awful. The toilet system is different to the usual and therefore smelly when the toilet was flushed or shower used. Overall it was the bed I needed. I’d probably stay again but in a different room!

Great pub, lovely room, perfect location
This trip was originally planned with my daugther, so it was a twin room, great size with a big ensuite bathroom. The room was clean and had everything we needed and was central to the places in York we were going. Would definitely book again.
