"This was one of the top three places I have stayed around the world. I rarely return back to the same place, but I will most definitely be back here. Such a wonderful place to enjoy nature and unwind. Close to many points of interest for tours. Excellent restaurants and amenities. The hot springs were amazing. Many thanks to the amazing staff for making us feel special. This was a wonderful experience!"

Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails

"This was our first stop on our trip and it came highly recommended. We stayed in room 40 which was a bit of a hike to the restaurant and reception. The room was very quiet and the balcony and windows were spectacular. Walking up the hill to breakfast we saw plenty of entertaining wildlife including a coati family playing in the trees. The property was truly unbelievable. I should have paid closer attention to the eco part of the lodge. We prefer to stay in accommodations with air conditioning. It was very hot in the room. We kept the fan on but the screen doors were torn and we felt unsafe leaving them open overnight. The staff in the dining room were wonderful and extremely welcoming. They gave us tips of where to look for an eyelash viper. Our first night we ordered the dinner special and it was way too much food. They saved it for us and replated it the next night which we were so grateful for since our room didn’t have a fridge and we hated to waste so much food. They certainly went the extra mile. We booked one of the complementary hikes around the property and wish we had signed up for the others. We loved the pool And hot tub and the grounds were really stunning. It is a bit of a drive if you plan to do activities in La Fortuna but the experience was incredible."

Volcano Lodge Hotel & Thermal Experience

"Fue la mejor estancia que tuve en Costa Rica. El Hotel está espectacular, desde que llegamos está entre la jungla. El personal es muy amable. Steve fue una de las personas que nos atendió y fue un gusto conocerlo y compartir con el. La comida y bebidas están súper ricas. Las aguas termales son excelentes y están abiertas asta muy tarde. El volcán lo puedes apreciar desde la piscina o desde el restaurante. Tener tu propio jacuzzi con agua termales es muy recomendable. Lo que me gustaría que ofrecieran en casa es un tipo de tienda con helados. Se puede apreciar también varios tipos de aves y lagartos. 100% recomendado"

"This place is stunning! The pools and springs were a huge hit with our large group and the grounds are breathtaking. Beautiful view of the volcano and very easily accessible to all of the activities you would want to do in the area. The included breakfast was a gem with an omlett station and delicious plantains and local cuisine. We saw a toucan, sloth and so many other birds on the property."

"Kaluma Villas was beyond our expectations. We were able to check in early and very easily. All instructions from the host were clear and easy. The volcano views from the pool are amazing. Everything was absolutely clean and we had any appliance needed to make meals, easily getting food from the local markets. We look forward to returning with friends and family! Highly recommend this fabulous resort."

Junglo Resort and Spa

"20 minutes from downtown La Fortuna. Expect to travel about 5km of rough gravel and potholes on a road where locals live. There are signs along the way to keep you on track; I would not stay here without a car. The property grounds were well kept. There were 13 bungalows in a row; not a resort as the name states (no gym,no activities, no spa, one small pool, one small restaurant, no lobby etc). Regardless, I felt safe and secluded enough to enjoy peace and quiet. I strolled the property and saw some birds and a few frogs. Please note: there is no actual spa on the property, but a masseuse can come to your bungalow to provide services. This must be scheduled ahead of time as the masseuse does not stay on the property. Communicate with staff via WhatsApp about your ETA if you’ll arrive before 9 am or after 6pm. We were provided with welcome drinks and staff helped with bags from assigned parking to the bungalow, which was much appreciated. The cons: the snack audit upon arrival. Staff had to count each item in fridge and on the counter then informed us of the price of each item. That was annoying after 12 hours of traveling and just wanting to shower and rest. The shower and sheets had a few strands of hair, shower had spots of mildew along the caulk at bottom of the glass, shower water did not stay hot, one key provided per bungalow. On the reservation I noted that I was celebrating my birthday but there was no acknowledgment. Not a bad place but one visit is enough for me."
