As a result of its outstanding art and architectural value, the hotel was classed amongst the city's historically listed monuments. It has been protected by UNESCO since the Velvet Revolution in 1993. The Cafe Imperial's history is as old and as rich as the hotel's. Soon after the opening, it became ''the'' fashionable place to be seen at, bringing artistic society together. It has witnessed a number of short stories, novels and operas draftted over the decades.
