Our stay at the Lookout Inn was definitely a mixed bag. I would not stay there again unless a couple of things changed and I’m sorry to have to say that and write part of this review. I’ll start with the good. The location was idyllic - beautiful views and lots of animals surrounding the Inn. You’re also right by the beach so it is easy to get to the beach and you can walk for miles – often not seeing another person. The staff was also just great, warm and friendly. I have to give a special shout out to the cook (Pavlo) in particular. He was very friendly and engaging, and you just got the impression he wanted everyone to enjoy themselves and the food. Now for the deal breakers. The biggest one was the bed. We were in Tikki Hut 2. My husband and I have travelled all over the place for over 20 years and this was the *worst* bed we have ever experienced. The springs jabbed me in the ribs, every time you tried to turn the springs squeaked, and on the last day I got up the nerve to pull up the sheets and look at the mattress. It’s probably good that I didn’t do this at the beginning or I could not have even slept in the bed. It was just downright nasty. Stained and disgusting. For a hotel, this should be the most basic thing to get right. That it was so horrible is inexcusable. I would encourage anyone who chooses this place to 1st ask if the mattress has been replaced and if the answer is no – stay away!!

Bello lugar, es estar en el bosque profundo. Se pueden ver muchos animales libres y felices a cada momento. La playa no es muy apta para el baño, pero hay muchos lugares para pasear. El sistema de comidas, todos juntos como una familia es muy grato. Además las comidas son muy buenas y el cocinero un encanto.

Hotel IM Paradiese
Tolles Hotel, toller Service aber Matratzen sehr gebraucht, sollten erneuert werden. Kein warmes Wasser zum duschen und Strom nur tagsüber da nur über Solar ... aber wir haben sehr genossen und bei der Umgebung schaut man da na drüber weg 😅

El lugar y la vista es espectacular, pero las condiciones de la habitación son malas, camas muy duras, ingresan insectos, toallas en mal estado.

Paradise but pricey meals!
Amazing eco lodge near the end of the road and the beginning of the jungle. The owners are extremely friendly and funny - and the rooms are unique and open air, making for a fun and adventurous experience. This place isn’t for the luxury focused traveler - it takes a bit of effort to get to and there will of course be bugs and critters around. We loved this about it. The secluded beach is one of a kind. Only downside - meals aren’t included and are extremely expensive: $15 for lunch and $25 for dinners. This place isn’t remote enough to warrant those prices, although the dinners were very good. Lunch left something to be desired. Overall, great experience. I think if you book directly with the hotel you might get a better rate and meals included - so look into that! They are pretty responsive by email.

Thank you so much for the feedback. Because of the remote location and transportation issue, etc. food tends to be expensive. Our food costs are competitive with, or lower than all of our neighbors and competitors. And 100 time more delicious!

Enttäuschendes Ecohotel
Wir hatten einen Beach Bungalow gebucht. Die Aussicht ist wirklich sehr schön. Das ist aber das einzige positive an dieser Unterkunft. Es gibt keinen Schlüssel, um den Bungalow abzuschliessen, obwohl in der ersten Dezemberwoche Gästen die Kameraausrüstung gestohlen wurde. Die Kissen waren sehr hart, das Zimmer und das Badezimmer ist schon sehr mitgenommen. Ganz schlimm ist, dass man bei Nacht zum Abendessen eine Treppe hinaufsteigen muss, die teilweise nicht mit einem Handlauf gesichert ist. Ausserdem gibt es keine Beleuchtung, es werden auch keine Taschenlampen zur Verfügung gestellt. Die Treppen sind oft durch den Regen schlüpfrig und dazu ist es stockdunkel. Wir haben den Besitz darauf aufmerksam gemacht, aber dies müsste er eigentlich wissen. Er ist Amerikaner und es wird fast nur englisch gesprochen. Zu den Mahlzeiten muss man pünktlich erscheinen, so wurde es uns eingetrichtert. Alles ganz schön im militärischen Ton. Wenn die Unterkunft nicht so teuer wäre, könnte man meinen, man bekommt etwas geschenkt. Uns hat das Essen nicht geschmeckt, es war sehr eintönig. Gekocht wurde es von einem amerikanischen Paar, welches einen billigen Urlaub für ein paar Wochen machen wollte. Sie erzählten das uns. Ich weiss wirklich nicht, wo die gute Bewertung der anderen Gäste herkommt. Wir hätten ganz sicher eine andere Unterkunft ausgesucht. Das Essen kostet zusätzlich pro Person über 20 Dollar, wenn es gut wäre, könnte man keinen Einwand vorbringen. Kein Warmwasser, nur Seife.

we all here at the lookout inn thank you for the visit - we are an eco lodge off the grid and all electric is from the sun .. solar power my rooms have a fan and a 12 volt light and wifi in the main lodge and charging also during day lite hours ... i have a full time costan rican woman the cooks and bakes for us so i am not sure who the american couple your talking about is ¡? read my web site and it tells you what to expect this is not a Disney cruise or a richy beach resort .. and again thank you and smile more often it helps ------------------------------------------------------------------- Wir alle hier im lookout inn danke für den Besuch - Wir sind eine Öko-Hütte vom Gitter und alles elektrische ist von der Sonne .. Solarenergie .. meine Zimmer haben einen Ventilator und ein 12-Volt-Licht und WLAN in Hauptlodge und Laden auch während Tagelichtstunden ... ich habe eine ganztägige costan rican frau die köche und bäckt für uns also bin ich mir nicht sicher, über wen das amerikanische Paar, von dem du sprichst, ist? Lies meine Website und es sagt dir was zu erwarten ist Dies ist keine Disney Kreuzfahrt oder ein richy Beach Resort... und nochmal danke und lächeln öfter hilft es

Ein Erlebnis
Das Essen ist augezeichnet und es gibt mehr als genug. Es kann gut sein, dass am Morgen ein Affe oben durch den Giebel des Zimmers spaziert, so sehr ist man in der Natur. Der Staff kümmert sich sehr gut um die Gäste. Der Weg dorthin ist etwas abenteuerlich, Gäste müssen mehrere Flüsse durchqueren. 4x4 ist unbedingt notwenig. In der Regenzeit kann man auch mal abgeschnitten sein von Puerto Jimenez, so ergings uns.

We had such a fantastic time at lookout. The room (monkey house), the staff, the food, and above all, the setting were wonderful. We did a day trip to Corcovado that terry organised for us, which was great. We also did a few independent walks from the hotel, and saw loads of wildlife! It was a mission to get there (planes, boat, taxi), but the hotel advised us and organised what they could. all went without a hitch! Definitely go to the osa peninsula, and definitely stay at lookout!

Warning! Do not book here!
Do not book during rainy season- June through October. An enormous river washed out the road and cars were stuck on both sides. We couldn't get there Tried two days in a row. Lost entire stay and 2 days of vacation. We had to spend quite a bit of extra money finding a place to stay. The owner was very unreasonable. Would not reimburse us our money, not even a portion. This was not just bad weather, the road was covered by a moving river with a several foot drop. Not safe to travel across.
You can see cars stuck on opposite side.

we are sorry you could not visit ' this river is very wide and looks wild but its not deep at all just looks mad ´´ other guests got to us as well as the local bus and motor cycles ... we offered you all extra days with us butt you turned us down ... we are still waiting and its sunny out

Carate ist eine Reise wert. Zwischen Pazifik und Regenwald kann man sich kaum entscheiden was toller ist. Lookout Inn sehr schön, tolles Essen und nette Leute. Viele Tiere direkt in der Lodge gesehen.

Its like staying in a tree house!
We loved staying here for the experience and the wildlife. We has 2 kinds of monkeys, coatis and macaws all come right to the porch of the main building and we even had an anteater drop by our room! It is about 1 hour down a dirt road from the nearest town so prepare for that! The meals were expensive even for kids & were served family style so you paid per person instead of per plate. We ate snacks during the day we brought with us and dinner at someone's home down the street instead for less than half the price.

This place should definitely be on the hit list! Squirrel and capuchin monkey right by our room! Macaw's joined us for afternoon drinks right from the jungle.

Dépaysement total mais coûteux
L'hôtel est situé dans la forêt, pas le choix de manger à l'hôtel pour la somme de 20$/pers/diner (pour du riz et de la salade). La moindre activité est facturé (attention car aucun prix n'est annoncé), cela nous a coûté 90$ pour que l'on nous décroche 2 kayaks sur la plage. 4$ la bière, 7 à 10$/ conso Prévoyez un bon budget surtout si vous perdez au change avec le $US car venant du Canada pour nous c'est un sacré budget...

Vi bodde två nätter här. Det är en lång bilväg på vägar i dåligt skick för att komma hit, men hemt klart värt det. Vi bodde 2 vuxna o 2 barn i tropical honeymoon suite. Öpppet rum med fantastisk utsikt med regnskog och hav. Detta är ett enkelt hotell. Man är lite som en gäst hemma hos ägaren Terry. Alla som bor på hotellet äter mat samtidigt. El för laddning av mobiler etc stängs av efter 1730. Restaurangen serverar alla samma mat. Helt ok dock. På natten kan de höga vågorna och ljuden från djungeln störa slmnen, men samtidigt väldigt cool upplevelse att höra pilgiftsgrodorna precis utanför rummet.

Jungle Paradise!
We absolutely loved this place! Do your research before driving to Carate, Costa Rica such that you understand where you are staying. There are no stores or anything. Its about 1.5 hours from Puerto Jimenez on a dirt road that can be slow going and a little rough. We had to cross 5 streams and small rivers to get there (literally drive through them), but that is the fun of it! If you love being in nature, nestled right in the middle of the jungle, walking distance from Corcovado National Park and forests then this is for you! The resort is Eco-friendly and everything runs on solar power. The cabins are nestled right in the trees with views of toucans, scarlet macaws, monkeys and other animals right outside. We saw so much wildlife right at the resort and on the surrounding trails. The cabins are private in the sense that they are not right next to each other but scattered throughout the property. Most of them including ours, seemed open right to the jungle with netting. The insides were kept really clean given you are right in the jungle. Terry, the owner, was super friendly and was always there to ensure the guests were having a good time. Given the remote location, it was amazing to see the resort actually has a bar with smoothies, drinks, sodas to keep you refreshed after a hike. Bernie was super helpful, making us smoothies and helping us getting our guide and tickets to go into Corcovado. Again, given the fact that you are in the jungle, the dinners and food was 5 star!

Good staff, bad management
The location of Lookout Inn is gorgeous, and the room itself was clean. Bear in mind the hotel is a two hour walk from the entrance to Corcovado, which seems to be usual for the Osa Peninsula. My mother and I stayed for two nights, and would not have been able to tolerate much longer. The staff is generally agreeable, and the guides were very good, but the owner is a terror. He is consistently drunk when interacting with guests, is rude and unwavering with staff in front of guests, and is overall a presumptuous and unfriendly person to deal with. Additionally, though this is a lesser complaint, it was about 95 degrees fahrenheit and 90% humidity and the shower water was scalding. Mainly as a result of the owner's behavior, there is no way we will return to the Lookout Inn.

Sehr coole Leute, super Essen und beste Ambiente. Alles war einfach Perfekt. Kann ich nur empfehlen. Einziges Problem: Taxifahrt vom Puerto Jimenes ist teuer. Es gibt aber ein colectivo Bus.

המקום צופה על האוקיאנוס, בעלי חיים באים לבקר. האוכל מצוין. הכינו את הארנק אבל שווה! הים לא לשחיה, הוא גלי מאוד, אבל כייף על החוף ואפשר לטבול מפעם לפעם ולשחק עם הגלים.

Un excellent hôtel pour se reposer et profiter de la nature. Vous découvrirez grâce à Terry de nombreux animaux qui viennent vous rendre visite à tous les moments de la journée. Excellents repas (faites attention avec Expédia, seulement le petit-déjeuner est compris, et il n'y a rien autour pour se restaurer, à part la cuisine proposée par l'hôtel). La chambre est très agréable, à entendre le bruit de l'océan. Excursions proposées au top, surtout le parc national du Corcovado. Personnel à votre écoute, rien à redire !

Die Lodge liegt in einem wunderschönen Gebiet mit einzigartiger Natur und ist in dieser Beziehung absolut top. Die Verpflegung und der Service ist in Ordnung. Der Umgang ist wie in einer Jugendherberge. Die Zimmer können nicht abgeschlossen werden. WiFi nur über Mittag, wenn man ohnehin nicht im Hotel ist. Auch wenn das Naturerlebnis in dieser Gegend sehr hoch zu werten ist und wir aus diesem Grund vermutlich wieder in das Hotel kommen würden, stimmt das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis für die Lodge nicht.

War ein toller Aufenthalt. Das Hotel ist ein Erlebnis. Der Nationalpark Corcovado sollte auf jedem Fall besucht werden.

Es un lugar para recordar en las cosas hermosas que vives entu vida!! La caretera esta en super estado....que nos sorprendio, porque decia que era muy maltratada!!Si quieren pasar dias inolvidables no lo duden....desayuno , y cena expectaculares..y es staff increible...

Nach einer abenteuerlichen Anfahrt erlebten wir tolle Tage im der Outlook Lodge. Super schoene Zimmer, geniale Gastgeber, Superessen und eine Wahnsinnslage! Exkursion in Corcovado NP ist ei Muss.

Points positifs: Cet 'hôtel' est plus une maison familiale qu'un hôtel à proprement parler. L'établissement est situé en limite de la civilisation ; ce qui donne calme et dépaysement absolu. Les chambres ouvertes sur la nature donne une touche incomparable à ce site. La qualité des repas du soir est bonne. Kathya (maitresse de maison) est disponible et très accueillante. Points négatifs : Le coté un peu rude de Terry (patron de l'hôtel) qui ne cherche pas à lier contact avec ses hôtes. Lorsque vous demandez un picnic pour la journée de visite du parc, les sandwiches sont composés de beurre de cacahuète et de confiture impossibles à manger. Dernier point : la lenteur de la connexion à internet qui ne permet pas son utilisation correcte dans l'affichage des pages.
