The trail goes to the top of the mountain where the borders between Austria, Italy and Slovenia meet. It starts in the small slovenian village called Rateče. The picture shows the Vršič Pass on the opposite side of the valley.

The apartment is cozy and the hosts are very friendly and very helpful. There is not much happening in the town so I would not recommend to stay there without a car. Beautiful Julian Alps in Slovenia when we stayed in Kranjska Gora.

Kranjska Gora

Take the road beyond Fusine (closed in wintertime) towards the Laghi and this emerald mountain lake with grant views is your reward. There are several spots where you see the water bubbling upwards, vulcano style, which fits perfectly with the idyllic scenery. The hike around this upper lake takes a good one and a half hour, depending on how many benches you want to try out. There is a connecting trail to the lower lake as well - will try that next time!
