Hotel Keen is a great place to stay for solo traveler or couple. The building is older so the insulation isn't great, and the rooms are small with no real "livable" area but it suited my needs perfectly and the photos at booking accurately reflect what you get. The beds are comfortable, the staff was helpful, and everything was very clean.
The location can't be beat. Minutes walk to Stanford, restaurants, coffee shops, and coworking spaces. It is a short walk to bus/Caltrain to get you into SF.
If you have louder neighbors, you might have an unpleasant experience because noise travels really well through the walls and hallways. I was lucky enough to not have this issue in my three nights there, but I could see it being a problem.
Overall, this older building has some flaws, but it was a comfortable sleep and the convenience of the location was worth some minor issues. I will be staying here again.
I also wanted to give an update on items mentioned in previous complaints:
- The heater was less-than-stellar but got the job done, if slow.
- The bathrooms have sliding barn doors.
- The windows do face a brick wall. This isn't a surprise looking from outside.
- My shower had hot water during my stay, so I didn't have this issue.
- My coffee maker worked. There is also a Nespresso machine downstairs in common area.
- The concierge is sometimes in the adjacent room, not always at the front desk. This didn't bother me, but may some people.
