"It’s a rare place that can fill me with such despondency as in my four nights here. The comments of other reviewers about the price of the food and the limited menu are valid (but do note that I was able to pay for my dinners by card), but what struck me most was how uneasy I felt most of the time there. The garden certainly is pretty, and the staff can at times be attentive (though there was something ingratiating about their demeanor, and their words of assurance rang hollow — the work on heating the pool was never completed, though we were told it would likely be shortly after we arrived; the balls for boules never arrived, though we were told they were coming), but there’s just something about the vibe of the place that had me and partner feeling a bit trapped and looking forward tremendously to leaving. I was so excited when we finally left, giddy actually! And I don’t think it’s all because of the fat, juicy flies, which leave streaks of red blood when you crush them, and that persistently come at you in that pretty garden and in the rooms. There were so many of them that I killed. --stayed in two rooms, but weirdly one was suffocating, bizarrely no airflow, even though there were windows --hotel is really in a food desert, hardly anywhere to get food nearby --the oasis was very disappointing; you can get great views of the palms from hotel rooftop, but when you walk through it, most of what’s green is actually walled off not much to see on those dusty walled roads"
