Strontian

Travel Guide

The stunning Loch Sunart in the Scottish Highlands. Ferries across the Inner Seas of Scotland are free to pedestrians and cyclists . . . and what better way to explore spectacular Lochaber. The terrain varies from easy flats around the coast and the lochs, to some challenging hills between them. The scenery however, is constantly stunning!

This tiny village of Strontian takes its name from the element (Strontian), which was discovered in the lead mines here in the late 1700's. It is also the perfect spot to stop for a coffee and light lunch.

Mouth of the Strontian. Aluvial deposits where the Strontian River reaches Loch Sunart at high tide. The dry area is being used as a nesting site by gulls (don't know which species).
