I spent a total of 10 days in Svalbard at Funken lodge.. The staff was amazing.. Food was great.. Room was good for me needs.. The lodge sits a bit away from rest of town.. Walking down to shops and other eatery places is a short walk.. Bit longer walking back up hill.. But can call a taxi if want.. Buses will come and get ya and take ya back from excursion.. And you can book many from the lodge itself.. Thank you Funken for taking such great care of me..

This hotel is located right in town near all the restaurants and stores, it’s the perfect walking distance to everything. The staff was very friendly and helped book a boat trip for me and they were all very knowledgeable. The room was a perfect size for two people and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was very good as well.

Place was huge. Clean. Easy to get to. Right in the middle of everything, so the location was perfect. Only issue we had was that we had no idea bedding wasn't included. Other hotels we have stayed at there had sheets and polliws, this did now.

It is half-an-hour away from the city center walking. Some people might think that it is a problem, but I thought it was perfect. I could walk right out and be at the spot where everyone goes to see the northern lights. The hotel breakfast is filling, the tours pick you up right there. I only walked to the city center to shop for some groceries and go out in a restaurant (30min walk). If you need some last minute food or drinks (even lunch packs and full thermos), they sell them at the reception...

Trip was incredible! Coal Miners Cabin was a fab place to stay. Quiet and comfortable rooms in an outpost type of town. The breakfast was great and the common room and bar was warm and cozy with a friendly, knowledgable and accommodating staff. The staff made travel/tour reservations for us when we arrived and even went as far as to make sure as one tour finished that we would be back in time to catch the next tour. They know everyone in town and got it all done for us! Remember in...
