Lovely staff, singling out Carmen and Felicia for special compliments!
Food and service were good. Our room was spacious and comfortable.
The views from the main lodge were outstanding. The pool was much warmer than our last visit in September 2004!
We found Hog Hollow had lost a little of its rustic charm and was more like a hotel.
A beautiful place to stay with outstanding service
We stayed at Hogs Hollow for two nights whilst driving the garden route and we loved our stay.
Our room - no 17 (or rather suite) was stunning. Breathtaking views from our private veranda and a spacious room with living area and large bed, and not to mention a wood burner that was freshly laid each day kept those chilly nights away.
But most of all the exceptional service was what made our stay. All the staff were very friendly and went above and beyond! Nothing was too much trouble, and when asking what we were up to for the day or for dinner flagged things like tide times to be aware of or whether somewhere was closed. We were also delighted by the daily car clean.
The weather wasn’t kind enough for us to use the pool but the pool deck was great and we used the sauna.
Breakfast was also delicious. A large continental selection with homemade goods accompanied by a hot dish of our choosing.
It is a beautiful property and well thought through. The only problem is that the infrastructure seems to break down a lot and the staff don’t seem to handle it well. On our second day we had no electricity for the afternoon. When they tried to fix it we were left with no water. Then they managed to get cold water. Next they arranged for us to shower in another unit. They had to be reminded to bring us a key for that room. That evening when the turn down staff came they took the key. We did not notice until the morning when we needed to have a shower. We must have gone to the front desk 6 times to deal with the issue. We had a plane to catch the next morning so this just added to the stress. They offered us a bottle of wine as compensation but we were getting on a plane so it was no use to us.
The food was generally good but for some reason the salads we ordered on the second night were not edible.
We had such a great experience here... the staff is amazing so welcoming and friendly we went with our 2 young children and they were so great with them.. would recommend this place to anyone with children. Also if you go you must do the champagne tour with mark he’s fantastic!
Our second visit to Hog Hollow and it was every bit as enjoyable as the previous one. Very much enjoy the friendly staff approah and the style of the place.
We stayed at Hog Hollow for one night as wanted to experience another side of Plettenberg. It’s got a real jungle/forest vibe in the hills. We arrived really early but they let us check in straight away which I loved and also gave us lots of suggestions on things to do. Our room was cosy, nicely decorated, lovely log fire. If I was being really penickity Id say it had a slightly musty smell but I think this is just a by product of location and it went with the fire burning. They helped us do a walk through the forest (wear insect repellent if you do this!) and then picked us up after which was handy. Service was really good all round. The staff even washed our car for us which was greatly appreciated!
Lovely pool to recline by looking out into the forest and then we did the in-house set menu in the evening which was lovely too.
Great stay for a night or two.
The location is fabulous and the deck area above the pool with the fire pit is amazing.
The food and hospitality are exemplary and the whole experience is very relaxing .
the hotel is well located for exploring the wider area and there is plenty to see and do.
Large and nicely decorated room. Wonderful communal terrace with log fire in the evening. Good food. Close to plattenburg bay, and plenty of local activities. And the pineapple soap in the room was good enough that we went to the producer to buy more.
But this is fully reflected in the price, and for a premium venue there were occasional glitches, like poor quality roibush tea, and cups that had not been pre-heated so it cooled quickly. And while the lack of wi fi in rooms was probably a selling point originally, with today’s connected world it is a pain.
But overall, would recommend.
A hidden treasure, lovely setting with fantastic views across the forest from your room, breakfast terrace and swimming pool. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Great position for lots of different things to do and see. My 2nd visit and was as excellent as first.
This place has the most amazing setting with georgeous views. Each lodge is set in between vegetation so feels very private, you are not overlooked by anyone.
The room had no aircon, just ceiling fans. Also NO TV. The bathroom had a big bathtub with room for two, and a candle holder on the wall so you could have a nice romantic bath in the candlelight. The beds were very comfortable and large. The curtains did not block out the light well so be prepared to get up when the sun gets up! The major bonus was the decking outside, where you can sit outside in privacy and just enjoy the nature around you. The lodge is reached by a small path that winds its way through the forest.
Service was good, we got help with parking, carrying bags etc. Amazingly, when we got in the car in the morning to drive off we noticed that they had *washed our car*.
Dinner was a disappointment. It's just a fixed menu consisting of a few dishes. There are three choices for the mains and that's it (meat/fish/vegetarian) and if you don't like any of these then you have a problem - there is nothing else around for miles. The food was good, but there was not much protein - and felt completely overpriced for a small piece of meat. Think "nouvelle cuisine" done South Africa style and you will have it.
Breakfast was very very good, with some exciting items I have not had before as well as blueberries, strawberries, home made omelettes, fantastic pastries etc.
Visited for 3 nights to celebrate my Wifes birthday in a very special place. We absolutely love this hotel ! Staff are the best we have ever met and really make a huge effort, and everthing about the hotel makes it a great place to stay. This is our 2nd time staying here, and we will definately be back. Highly recommended !!
