Very nice staying surrounded by the jungle.

Staying here is definitely a wonderful experience. Food was not really typical Kerala style. It's kind of a northern style.

Best place to stay if visiting Periyar reserve

The hotel is actually IN the reserve meaning that until 17.30 you can wander around animal spotting. We did so on arrival and saw as much as we did the following day on the morning boat tour. - elephants, monkeys, deer, buffalo, birds, boar . Of course NO tigers. With around 47 in a reserve of nearly 800km the chances are virtually nil. Staying here also means guaranteed boat place and rolling out of bed straight into the reserve. No early pick up and transfer and queue to get in. Rooms and food are fine and bargain price

Periyar House

Everything was good - the staff, food, rooms, facilities and amenities, co-operation in addition to the uncontrollable natural elements like rain, nature, atmosphere. We would surely like to visit again and stay at the same place. The place is right in the forest and has great locational advantage. Would love to spend some more days wondering around the area on foot.

Truly Mesmerising

Excellent location, amazing to stay in forests, clean air, no pollution. Had a great time enjoying in house activities like cycling, basketball, enjoyed classical dance. Breakfast & buffet dinner was awesome. Watching wildlife while boating inside forest was a great experience

Awesome location.. out in the forest

Amazing place.. just couple of hick ups. One has to reach before 5 pm if not the reserve forest security will not allow you in.. so ensure you plan to reach by 3 (just in case you have a flat tyre n don't get further delayed). If u miss 5 pm the max you can get in is by 6 pm. Getting in later than that is impossible. My advice is call and speak to the hotel reception before you book so that u know exactly what you have to do to get into the reserve forest as one has to buy tickets as well to enter the reserve forest. One can't go out after 6 pm as well... However apart from those logistics challenges the hotel is just amazing.. old style but nice. Food is average. The only uncomfortable thing is the main door of the rooms. You can lock it from inside but there is a big ventilation above the door ( pad locks) n one can open it from outside!!!!

Overall hotel was good. Good staff But only drawback is 5 pm the gates are shut but u can request the ktdc hotel for a jeep. Food is ok. Rooms give u feeling of olden resorts. But the location is very good to feel the forest environment. Beware of the monkeys. Front desk Manager was very helpfull.

Was a well kept property with decent food catered by the restaurant. Right inside the jungle. Probably the cheapest among the 3 properties in Thekkady maintained by Kerala tourism.

value for money for a family trip

rooms are great even the property is also good especially that forest atmosphere,but they need to improve a lot in food and beverages, also the restrictive timing by the forest department which should be relaxed at least by allowing the guests for casual walking in the main road to the lake

Thekkady National Park stay

Periyar house is a nice experience only because you get to stay in the national park premises. The food at the restaurant was good. But the room as such can be rated as 2 star. But it's a good facility for a night's stay, not beyond that. The biggest advantage is that it's just 10 minutes walk from the boat launch and the trekking point. Since one cannot go out or get in the park after 5.30pm, the restaurant inside is the only option for dinner.

Periyar House nestles right in the woods.Elephants,hedgehogs,deers are regular visitors at night.Hotel services are organised.Since no engagements in night, the hotel indoor games facilities sould be more developed.Overall we enjoyed the stay.

Hi , I have stayed in periyaar house for 2 days. Its a very nice location but it has some pros n cons too. Pros- 1. One of the best experience of living in woods 2. Periyaar lake is on walking distance and hotel will provide u the tickets of boat ride so u don't need to be in long queue. 3. Nature walk in the periyaar forest in a very reachable location near to lake. 4. First trip to boat ride is best, this view can't be beat by any other time. 5 we were lucky enough to see many animals like elephant etc while our boat ride. Cons- 1. After 5:30pm u need to be in the hotel only. Can't go even beyond 50 MTS due to safety reasons. 2. Rooms are OK , don't expect much if u r on looking for fancy one. 3. 2 days are too much to be here , one night stay for all the activities would be suffice. Second day was kind of boring as there is nothing much to do.

An old fashioned hotel. No balconies. Monkey infested. Average but expensive food. Though benefit is the fact that it is inside the sanctuary. pls go if u are a great nature lover. But if u want to engage on other varied activities stay out of this place.

Good hotel inside the forest reserve.

The experience in Periar house inside the thekkady tiger reserve was one of the pleasant experiences of my holiday in Kerala. I was here for one night (30-31, December 2013). The hotel is right the middle of the forest, which gives you a very serene experience of staying right in the middle of the forest, away from the chaos of the city life, there is a dining hall which serves buffet breakfast and dinner , and snacks options are also available in the evening. Quality of the food was good. The hotel area was very big , with wide alleys and spacious rooms. there are gardens, where you can just sit and relax, its very calm and peaceful. The staffs were very courteous , and arranged for the periar lake boating tickets at the checkin time, (this is the major attraction ), try to book the early morning boat seats which starts from 7.30AM. The are 2 more hotels inside the reserve, Aranya Niwas and one more.(all are KTDC hotels) I took a walk with my wife in the evening till the entrance of the boating, it was really pleasant and the stay here was very fulfilling. we enjoyed thoroughly here , we wished to stay one more night here, but since we had our bookings in allepey so we had to move on. Stay here for atleast 2 nights , and enjoy many other options like elephant ride and jeep safaris, all which can be arranged from the reception. For your keral trip this is one place which cannot be missed at any cost if you love nature! Biplab sarkar.

Excellent location and advantages end here !

Location is excellent, you get priority in booking boat ride tickets for periyar lake. But thats all. All positives end here. Then all negatives start - Food - Terrible. Particularly with a limitation that you cannot go out of forest after 5pm, the food has to be good but it was really horrible. Many people complained during the stay but no improvement. Reception staff says, we don't have control over restaurant. The only option is buffet, which was terrible. You cannot order what you want. Once we ordered snacks, nothing came for more than hour (it was just sandwiches and Pakoda), when contracted restaurant, they said they delivered in a wrong room - who on earth will accept a snacks order when its not ordered by them :-) That was a complete lie. Information available in hotel says for any outside tours/trips contact reception. Reception says we don't have any information. You need to go out and search for yourself as you don't get mobile or internet connectivity there. Aranya Nivas (another KTDC resort near lake could be good but no idea). When we checked out, they asked us to pay for food bills - a certain amount. But they didnot have all the bills. We could have simply said no and they would not have any option. We just approximated and paid in good spirit but we could have avoided to pay considering other experience. Good experience to stay in forest.
