Thorpeness Meare frozen, with dog A dog takes an interest in the snow around a frozen Meare, while 2 sea birds stand by what seems to be a small patch of open water. In the past I have seen swans acting as icebreakers but there were none to be seen on this day. To the right there is a fluffy pile on the ice, which I fear is a deceased bird, perhaps trapped by the ice.

Thorpeness Meare at night It was totally dark - this shot is entirely lit by an overhead firework. Smoke patterns in the sky show where the previous firework burst. Many spectators insist on getting a close view in overloaded rowing boats. The Meare is a man made boating lake, made from a marsh as part of the holiday village development in the early part of 20th century.
