I didn't realize this before I booked my trip, but King's Ohakune is on the side of town that is extremely quiet this time of year. As in, most businesses completely closed down and hardly anyone in the area. But, it's just a couple blocks from the train station so at least it was easy to find when I got into town. The hotel itself was fine - exactly as pictured, exactly as advertised. I have to mentioned how impressed I was by the hospitality of the staff. It was a quite slow weekend and so I only ever saw three members of staff but they were all excellent. Always friendly, polite, extra accommodating, and making sure I was taken care of with an ease that shows professionalism and true care. The young woman checked me in/out - sorry, I can't remember her name now :( - even gave me a ride into town so I wouldn't have to drag a suitcase 2km to the bus stop. This is the kind of personalized service that is remembered long after many other aspects of the trip. I worked in the luxury hotel business for nearly four years earlier in my career and I would have been happy to see my staff working as well as the staff at King's did. I also want to mention that the housekeeping was absolutely spot on as well. I used two separate rooms during my stay at King's and they were both impeccably clean and well-kept. Again, my experience in the industry tells me that this is far easier said than done and I am very impressed. I'd happily recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Ohakune.
