  • Jagdish Temple is one of the famous temples of Udaipur. Located in the City Palace complex of Udaipur, this temple is made in the Indo-Aryan style of architecture. In 1651, Jagdish temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh, who ruled Udaipur during 1628-53. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Laxmi Narayan), the preserver of the Universe. It is celebrated for being the largest temple in the city of Udaipur. The gateway of this temple can be sited at a distance of 150 meters from the Bara Pol of the City Palace. This three-storied temple is a wonder of architecture that comprises beautifully carved pillars, decorated ceilings, painted walls and lush halls. In those times, 1.5 million rupees were spent to raise this structure. The spire of the main temple is around 79 feet high that undoubtedly dominates the skyline of Udaipur. This shikhar (spire) is festooned with sculptures of dancers, elephants, horsemen and musicians making it truly a sight to behold. As and when you approach the temple, you will be welcomed by two huge stone elephants at the entrance. On the very front of the temple, you would find a stone slab that is imprinted with the inscriptions with reference to Maharaja Jagat Singh. To reach the main shrine, you have to take a marble flight of 32 steps. Here, you will find a brass image of Garuda, a figure of half-man and half-eagle. This huge idol stands as if; it is guarding the doorway of Lord Vishnu.

Perfect in every way

Every minute of our stay was a treat. The service was next level and always on point. We felt pampered from the time we were welcomed with a rose petal shower on entry to our check out time. Every nook and cranny is just lovely. We dined on the roof at Bhairo and it was a sublime experience.

This is our second stay at property after several years. The welcome was amazing as was the evening entertainment. Property needs more upkeep and cleanliness. Gym was subpar.

This is a magical hotel. The staff are incredibly helpful, attentive and kind. The room is spacious and spotless. The property is a palace and you truly feel like royalty when staying at the Taj Lake Palace. The food is delicious, the history tour was excellent, the boat rides were wonderful and Rajish who picked me up from the airport and brought me back was kind and told me a lot about the area. This is a hotel I want to return to many times. It’s a very special place. One of the best hotels I’ve visited. I feel truly grateful I was able to experience such a magical place.

Imagine staying at a palace. As Americans, this is unimaginable. However, the Taj Lake gives you the full experience. The gardens, the flute, the palm reader, the dancers, the history tour, and then you have the awestruck level of food. This is the MUST STAY destination of our 20 day tour.

We stayed at the hotel for one night and checked in late, just after 7pm, so our time at the hotel was short, but we were impressed by the atmosphere of the hotel and the hospitality of the staff. Thank you for allowing us to take a break at the Prudential Suite after checking out before departing from Udaipur.We had a wonderful experience.Thank you.

Magical Lake Palace

Taj Lake Palace is one of my favorites in the entire world. From the moment one arrives - it's pure magic. Much of the staff has been there 15 plus years - and their level of care and service is superb. Just one issue - synthetic smell in rooms that they tried to neutralize but unsuccessful.

The Taj Lake Palace is so unique and beautiful as to be magical. The staff were attentive and kind. The hotel is a jewel in the midst of Udaipur, which is a far livelier city than, say, Delhi or Agra or Jaipur. My only complaint about the Taj Lake Palace is that there are too many birds, including pigeons, around the place. But that is a relatively minor quibble, and the Taj Lake Palace is overall a marvelous experience.

Rip off in the name of historic experience

Taj Palace is definitely a good place to visit to enjoy the view and also see the old palace. However, the stay at the hotel is a shear waste unless you are looking for old rooms with old beds and bathrooms. The hotel has upgraded all the lights to LED to save power, but did not spend a dime on upgrading the bathrooms which are very old. They are in no way antique because guest rooms were constructed by Taj. So upgrading them won't make a difference. As expected the prices at the restaurant were 10x. But what surprised me was that they were serving a beer cost $1 at almost $6 while there in gross violation of local law. The best way to see this place is to go for lunch or dinner. Staying at modern hotel is more preferable.

Do you like Royalty, History, and Service? You may love your stay here for these three reasons. The property was built for Royalty and it still keeps that pride in all its glory. The elegant building, though historically aged, is well maintained with enthusiastic staff. You stay there, and we felt that you are made to feel like royalty during your entire stay. The service is designed to cater to your personal needs and it anchors around the eating place named Jharokha. The head chef Pramod Narayanan will cater to your personal taste with fresh food cooked just for you. He alone can be the reason for you to have a memorable stay at Taj. For us it was. The finely sized rooms are decorated with intricate taste and you will enjoy every inch of it. Access to the lake property is only by boat which are nicely maintained and which are available t o you on demand. The boat ride itself, several times a day (in and out travel), is another unique and significant highlight of this Taj. And we felt that any issues during our stay were generally solved instantly when we raised them; they may do that to your individual satisfaction also. In summary, we enjoyed our stay at Taj Lake Palace Udaipur and those thoughts are still floating in our memory. I hope you will like your stay at this taj too.
