We had the most wonderful stay at Convento de Sao Francisco. Staying in the property is an amazing experience. Our room was very comfortable and nicely furnished and the bed had lovely linens. The convent property has so much atmosphere and is furnished with beautiful period pieces as well as comfortable couches. As it was January we did not use the pool or garden but they looked very nice. The breakfast was very hearty and very good. We had local fruit, yogurt, cheese,eggs, cereal. Everything was fresh and really tasty. Waking up to eat pineapple and bananas from the garden is a great experience! The hotel hosts, Jose and Manuela, were so helpful and kind and gave us good directions. We visited in January so the town was quiet but I would like to come back to see the marina, beach and town squares in the warmer temperatures! The town is very convenient to the main city, the airport, and other tourist sites. We loved our stay in this unique and comfortable hotel. Thank you!

What a wonderful retreat! We absolutely loved the setting, the antique building, the tall ceilings, the incredible breakfasts. A truly unique stay. Of special note, the owner was of special assistance to us when I needed to see a local doctor. And they accommodated an early breakfast for us when we needed to fly out early on our last day. Highly recommended

Wonderful experience. The owners and staff were extremely welcoming. They made us feel like it was our home. The rooms & property are beautiful with lots of nooks and crannies to explore, and sit and read or chat. The pool & garden are nice to relax in, and the hotel has Wonderful views of the Ocean and Islands. Breakfast was very fresh, delicious, and healthy. I would recommend building in time in your schedule to relax on the hotel grounds, it is well worth it! We definitely plan to return and stay longer.

The convent is a very interesting building with atmospheric rooms that are well decorated. Nicely located at Villa Franca and excellent hosts.

Quiétude
Nous regrettons n'avoir pas pu rester plus d'une nuit. Une fois à l'intérieur on découvre un havre de paix. L'endroit et calme et très bien entretenu. Il y a plusieurs salons et espaces à découvrir (dont une belle piscine). Le personnel est également très sympathique. Bref nous recommandons!

Going back centuries
It is an amazing place to stay. W e had 6 nights. The hotel is restored carefully with lots of details refering to its former function. Very lovely staff and nice breakfast.

Ich fände es schade, dass auf zwei Nachfragen die wir per App gestellt haben keine Antworten kamen. Die Küche ist leider null ausgestattet und sieht leider sehr in die Jahre gekommen aus. Auch befindet sich die Unterkunft eher außerhalb. Ohne Mietwagen echt keine Chance

Meraviglioso convento francescano ristrutturato a meraviglia per essere un albergo elegante e tranquillo la notte nonostante sia nei pressi della strada principale del paese. L'atmosfera è quella di un sito monumentale più che di un hotel, le camere spaziose e confortevoli. Un ricordo bellissimo.

Un lieu très apaisant avec une splendide vue sur la cote. Des chambres immenses et propres. Un petit déjeuner très joliment présenté et varié. Et des hôtes adorables et disponibles. En résumé, un très bel hôtel qui n’en est pas réellement un tellement le lieu est chargé d’histoire !

Bardzo ładny i zabytkowy obiekt z przestronnym holami, krużgankami, 2 wewnętrznymi pdwórkami, ogrodem z basenem i krytym kortem squasha. Przestronne pokoje z dużą łazienką. Super śniadania z rewelacyjnymi lokalnymi serami, powidłami i dżemami własnej roboty, pomarańcze z wyciskarką do soków i ananasy z własnej uprawy. 2 salony ze stylowymi meblami (w tym 1 z barkiem samoobsługowym), salon TV, kąciki samotności w wykuszach, 2 tarasy z leżankami a to wszystko dla tylko 13 pokoi. The property was beautiful and full of character! The room was spotlessly clean. The managers were the best I have encountered while on vacation and were very kind and attentive to our needs and top of the line professionals. I also fell in love with their dog Lady Gaga. Excellent job all around it was a grade A experience!

The hotel was amazing. We stayed all over the island of Sao Miguel on our trip and this was by far our favorite place to stay. It's beautiful and the owner is so sweet. The photos don't do this place justice it was beautiful. They grow their own pineapples and serve them with breakfast along with cheeses and eggs.

The Convento de Sao Francisco is an experience, not a hotel stay. You have the run of a vast and fascinating 16th century building--explore all the cloisters, nooks and crannies! Rooms are palatial. Breakfast is amazing, served in a sunny room by an ancient hearth. This monastery is utterly peaceful and worthy of a long, relaxed visit, but possibly not for everyone--if you need a reception desk, a TV in your room, a bellhop with room service--go somewhere else. If you like real history, you will be in heaven.

Wonderful stay at atmospheric convent hotel
We stayed at the Convent for 2 nights and really enjoyed the historical ambience. It was like staying in a parador. Our room was massive and even had an open fire, which we lit one evening. The lady on reception was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Nice communal areas: a sitting room and good breakfast at a refectory table. Walking distance to everything in Vila Franca. We were there for after New Year and there was an amazing concert in the main church and the next night a procession of 3 Kings for Epiphany. In summer you could go across to the Islet and swim in the hotel swimming pool. It was open during our stay and wouldn't have been too cold but after the thermal baths at Furnas we were spoilt. It would be a great place to stay with a group of friends.

One of a kind
It was a very good experience, as it was unusual. Very serene, big, one hardly sees the other guests, great great breakfast,super friendly personnel, Manuela the manager was unbelievable friendly, accommodating, did all she could to make our stay a great one. Great pool, all very clean, in a small village, near Ponta Delgada Would do it again

Wonderful spot in beautiful town
We loved our stay at the convent. The building was stunning, and the room was huge and nicely appointed. There's a very nice pool and a stunning view of the town and ocean from the roof deck. The owners were kind and accommodating, and breakfast was delicious!

This was a wonderfully maintained and beautiful place to stay. In addition to the beautiful convent, the owners were beyond helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was lovely as well. I would highly recommend!
