"I booked accommodation at the Kings Head for myself & my registered assistance dog. Upon arrival, I was refused check-in solely because the hotel stated that they “do not allow pets.” I explained that my dog is a legally recognised assistance dog & not a pet. Despite this, I was still denied access to the hotel.
I was subsequently directed to alternative accommodation at the Lodge in the Vale, approximately a 10-minute walk away. This caused significant inconvenience & distress, particularly given my mobility limitations & underlying health conditions.
After checking into the alternative accommodation, I discovered that no food or catering facilities were available on site. I was informed that I would need to walk back to the Kings Head in order to obtain food. Due to my medical & mobility issues, this was not reasonably possible, resulting in me going without food throughout the evening & into the following morning.
I consider the actions of the Kings Head to constitute unlawful discrimination under the Equality Act 2010. Assistance dogs are protected by law, & service providers are legally required to make reasonable adjustments & must not refuse access to individuals accompanied by an assistance dog.
The treatment I received was humiliating, distressing, & had a direct negative impact on my wellbeing. I reserve all legal rights in relation to this matter, including the right to pursue formal legal action £ seek damages for discrimination & distress & losses. "
"Was an older style hotel staff were friendly enough but place could do with a lick of paint. Food was ok served in the bar area. My room looked out over a roof with two boiler vents so window handle had been removed (for good reason as one does not want to be breathing those fumes even if it is mostly steam) but meant no fresh air. bed was comfy and room was spacious enough. "
"Extremely welcoming and very clean and comfortable. We had a wonderful 4 nights at the Grange. Loved having made-to-order, delicious breakfast with amazing views.
It is an uphill walk from town, but very worth it for the hospitality we received from Mark, Sally, Max, Adam and Jaime.
Would definitely recommend!"
"Short walk from Town Centre, great breakfast. Room clean but miner niggle in that it should have been a single room rather than double as despite the warning the beams were impossible to miss sometimes!"
"I stayed here while walking the Cumbria Way and it is in an excellent location. On the high street, but on the corner soon a quiet location.
The building looks fantastic and is close to shops and restaurants and cafes in Keswick, but far enough away to be away from the crowd not to be busy.
The pub and restaurant are smart and tidy and the food in the restaurant for evening meal and breakfast were excellent.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough to help. The room I stayed in was very comfy and had everything I could have wanted.
The bathroom was very smart and well equipped and even though it was a compact bathroom it was well designed."
"Wonderful hotel perfectly located in Keswick. Great base of operations for seeing the area. No complaints at all about the property. And receptionist Matilda was incredibly kind and helpful! Thank you!"
