TLDR: Guests left the window open then complained about road noise. It was clear from when these guests arrived, ignored the signs to check in at Reception or park in the visitors carpark and just stopped in the middle of the driveway blocking all traffic - that they might be difficult. On asking the husband to move into the assigned room parking he ignored this request and took another room's car park. When you receive an unfair review it is difficult not to respond emotionally so I will move to to specifically answer the review complaints: “The motel is next to a busy highway & our room (2) was the closest to the highway.” The motel is off State Highway 1, but this is a residential area with a speed limit of 50km/h. Room 2 is >25m back from the road with the swimming pool, 2 parking spaces, 4 palm trees and a stone wall in between. Furthermore: “The traffic noise was unacceptably loud & constant & I couldn’t possibly fall asleep.” The road noise was clearly made worse by the fact that these guests left the window facing the road open all night. Our residence is above Reception and less than a third of the distance from the road that room 2 is, so we know exactly what the level of road noise is – it is similar to a busy suburban street rather than a highway. For anyone very sensitive to noise I recommend contacting the motel and giving them the chance to assign a room further from the road. Closing the windows and using the high quality air conditioning/heat pump for heating or cooling is also a good practice to reduce outside noise. We're very sorry that someone didn't get a good night's sleep at our motel and would like to assure everyone that if you have any special requirements, just speak with us beforehand and we can advise on the most suitable room and even close the windows for you.
