Great staff, very nice spacious room and the hotel campus was really 5 star! Recommended stay. The breakfast spread was a bit disappointing given the hotel amenities.
The staff was over the top with helping me, especially Eva at the desk and Warren at the door. I hadn’t set up any local trips before I arrived but they took care of taxis and getting me an outstanding English guide (“Wang”) at the Terra Cotta Warriors excavation site. Unfortunately the laundry prices were a little high. I had a full load, 9 tee shirts for instance, with the associated clothing, not much else that cost over $100 to get done. The pool and restaurant are in another building, another hotel actually but the buffet was a spread you wouldn’t believe. At about $25, it made the buffets in the US look like a fast food snack bar. Two other restaurants, Italian and Chinese, were in the other buildings in this gated complex. Yes the Mercure was slightly dated, but not enough to warrant criticism. It was located about 30-40 minute taxi drive (cheap at about $7) from the Xi’an north “bei” (pronounced “bay” train station.
his was my second stay at this hotel. I chose to come back because my daughter especially loves the breakfast here, and I really enjoy the overall atmosphere of the hotel. The garden even has a pavilion, and the building design is very grand, creating a very comfortable feeling.
The breakfast selection with a wide variety of both Chinese and Western options, and the Terracotta Warriors-themed details make it quite distinctive. The staff are all very warm and polite, and their thoughtful service made me feel very at ease during my stay. The room is spacious, making it comfortable to stay in. I believe that the next time I come to Xi'an, I will still choose to stay at Grand Mercure.
We stayed in a suite and it was a grand room. The hotel is pretty central and walking distance from most touristy spots. It has its own beautiful campus with 5 other 5 star hotels along with beautiful gardens around. The buildings really look grand and from an different era. Our room was comfortable, spacious and with good amenities and comforts. Staff is friendly and helpful. Recommended while in Xian.
Very helpful front desk staff and courteous lobby personnel. Large comfortable bed. The room cleaning staff also do a great job. There is complimentary access to a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. The breakfast selection is large and of excellent quality.
There was a quiet park near the hotel, and the room was comfortable and spacious. It wasn’t far from the Bell Tower, so it was convenient to get around. I would consider staying here again.
The hotel and service is beyond great! Very quiet and clean. They offer a five star breakfast buffet that includes both local and International food options. Our family enjoys the food and service a lot during our stay. The hotel room is spacious and beautiful. We will definitely book the hotel again when we visit XI’An next time!
We loved the GM, traveling as a family of 4 with 2 rooms. The GM is aged royalty, a bit past her prime, but she remains elegant, graceful, and comfortable. Great hotel for the money. We would happily return.
I think this was the best stay in the whole China trip for me. I enjoyed the place, shower & bath, comfortable bed, breakfast, and hospitality staff. The location was a bit distanced from the station but taxi makes a big difference to come back here. I wish Japanese restaurant was open but I enjoyed the Chinese restaurant at Sofitel as well.

The room is not well lit and despite the temperature being hot this period, the AC was not working well. Hotel was well located and some of the tourist spots were within walking distance.

The building and the room has the old english theme which is very unique. i totally understand if the hotel management want to keep to the theme but some refurbishments are needed as the room look worn out i.e bathroom tiles, the cabinets, carpets. Overall, the room was clean and bed was comfortable.
Maybe I am just being mean for not giving this property a five star. The porperty is in a very good condition, not as close to the touristic areas within the city wall. Receptionists do not speak very good english but they did their very best to help me especially when I was contacting my Didi driver for my pick-up. I would definitely stay in this property again though.
When we arrived at 10pm we were greeted by a room upgrade with a welcome cake for our anniversary: simply magnificent: brilliant location, staff excellent all the time, impossible to rate other than as 10/10. Only one small item to comment on: more a cultural difference than anything: the fridge was not cold, probably because the locals like warm drinks including beer. However, plenty of ice freely available on request. In summary, we loved it.
The hotel was very good and I would generally recommend to anyone. However, if you stay, you should know that the hotel does not have a pool of its own, despite how it appears on the website. Instead, you have full access to the pool and spa at the Sofitel which is in the same complex. To reach the pool you do need to leave the Mercure, walk about 100 yards up a quiet road and access the Sofitel we did not know this when we booked and equally, did not have a problem with it when we realised. However, if you are looking for the pool and spa,to be in the same building, this might not be the hotel for you. Important to add here, the hotel staff did give us a free room upgrade. Our room was very comfortable and had one of the biggest beds I’ve ever seen (greater than super king). The Wi-Fi also did not work and no one we spoke to managed to get it to work either.
The hotel is not only outdated but decadent. Installations, rooms, facilities, appliances, breakfast and almost everything are not even close to a grand mercure standard.
One day, in the middle of the night there was a power shortage in our room (electrical installation malfunction) and the emergency light was lit on our faces making it necessary to call maintenance before morning and wait for repairs.
It has haf its glory days but today couldn't be classified anything above 3 stars.
On the positive side the bed was very good and comfortable.
We had a really enjoyable three night stay at the Grand Mercure. Everything was more than we could have wished for. We were given a room upgrade on arrival. The staff were all really friendly and spoke a decent level of English. And the breakfast was really good. We would happily stay here again if we return to Xi’an.
