Zaamslag, Zeeland hotel rooms at the Independent

"The advertised air conditioning is 'a closed circuit consisting of multiple rooms' which the staff advised us could not be used to cool the room until the weather became warmer. I visited in April when the weather had just turned warm, the sun shone on the window all day so the room became hot. Opening the one window did not cool the room down quickly so we had to sleep with it open. The temperature of the room made it difficult to fall asleep. Then on the second night smoke and the smell of marijuana came in through the open window which made it even more unpleasant. The bathroom was also mouldy."

"We had a lovely stay in Gent at the CASTLENOU apartment/hoIel.I would suggest having complimentary coffee snd tea available for guests. There are both in the rooms, however a limited selection. Breakfast had an extensive selection of a variety of breakfast foods for fifferent cultures. We had a suite which was roomy. "

"Friendly staff and clean room. Breakfast in the restaurant was good. About a 15-minute walk from the train station and about a 15-minute walk to the old town. There were a grocery store and restaurants near the train station, and fancier restaurants in the old town. Limited evening food at the hotel bar."

"Absolutely loved the table tennis and the communal spaces. The room was small but perfectly functional and was just what we needed. Car park was easy to find and it was an easy walk into town. We would definitely stay here again."

"Close to the centre and convenient (if not tight) parking. The room smelt damp though, especially the bathroom which was unpleasant and meant we needed to open a window regularly. There was no extraction in the bathroom so we think this was why."

"A weekend of sightseeing and drinking the regional beers. Excellent hotel near the centre of the old town. Within walking distance or many excellent bars and restaurants and immediately on top of the canal/river area. Very tastefully arranged behind the traditional looking building, the modern interior is comfortable and quiet. Superb rooms, tasteful, functional and clean. "
