"The surrounding area is beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rate included breakfast which was nice. However, this is an all-smoking room hotel - contrary to what it’s listed as. There was no noticeable odor in the room, but might not be the same for all. And they’re having trouble with the hot spring source so there’s no onsen water to the room balcony baths (my main reason for booking), and their regular hot spring will be sometimes closed. That was the most disappointing part. "

"Everything about the accommodation was excellent, especially the staff! Despite the communication struggles, they were very helpful and provided great service during my stay. The free shuttle service to the ski resort was also extremely useful as they would drive you to your desired resort and pick you up at your specified time. "Extremely remote (nearly a 3 hour bus ride from Kinegawa Onsen Train station into the winding mountains) which was both an adventure and unnerving. Made to feel like a foreigner with little help in understanding the cultural norms as a newcomer to the onsen experience. The in-suite onsen option was incredible, providing both privacy and ability to enjoy the experience as a newcomer free of the "ritual" imposed but not well explained for use of the public hot pools. "We absolutely loved our short stay at Nikko Turtle Inn. The area is so beautiful, and it was convenient to all the Nikko attractions (we had a rental car). The property was adorably retro (but comfortable), the staff was delightful, and the on-site onsen are private. We are heavily tattooed, and finding an onsen that allows us in is not easy. We appreciate that it was not a problem!! We would absolutely stay at Nikko Turtle Inn again!! "

"This is one of the best stays we had. The house was magical. Comfortable beds, spotless clean, quiet. Host was really nice. We slept very well. We loved the Japanese family table. "

"Very nice and helpful people running the hotel. However, the place is VERY hard to find and reach, especially at night time. Moreover the room was exceptionally cold, including the mattress, so that I was forced to put a blanket below and another on top so as not to freeze. On the upside, as I said, the owner was really nice and even offered me to take me to the train station in the morning."
