- Traveling on a plane can be a stress-free experience if you've got all the right gear. First things first, you'll need toiletry items, such as toothpaste, a toothbrush and some deodorant, a fresh change of clothes and a good novel. Next, make room in your hand luggage for your phone, tablet and chargers, any vital medications and maybe a neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, remember to take your passport, travel documents and your credit cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated. Sharp objects, like your Swiss Army knife, and dangerous products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and fuels, are also restricted.
What to wear on a flight:
- The aisles of an airplane are no place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfortable clothing and remember to bring a sweater as it can get chilly in the cabin. Flat, slightly roomy shoes are always a good choice too.
- A serious condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a potential risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clots forming due to poor circulation and inactivity. Doing regular leg and foot exercises while seated is a great way to prevent this developing. Wearing a good-quality pair of compression socks also helps reduce the risk.
