Wherever you're coming from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you prepare well enough. Follow these handy tips and tricks that will get your Alma vacation started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Air travel can be a cruisy experience if you carry the right stuff. First of all you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a spare set of clothes and a few magazines. Secondly, make room in your carry-on bag for your laptop, a charger, your medications and perhaps a comfy neck pillow as well. Last, but definitely not least, don't forget to take your passport, travel docs and your credit cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of restricted items differs between airlines, the general rule of thumb is nothing flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes tools, metal cutlery, fireworks and fuel. Sporting equipment like bows and arrows, and objects that could injure passengers, such as guns and swords, are also banned from the cabin.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your number one priority is to feel as comfortable as possible. Layer up with loose, natural fibers and remember to bring a jacket in case it gets cool in the cabin. Always opt for well-fitting, flat shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell during the flight. Leave the high heels and heavy boots in your luggage.
- A condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can pose a risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clots forming due to inactivity and poor circulation. Walking around the cabin and doing regular foot and leg exercises while seated helps to prevent this from happening. Wearing a quality pair of compression socks or tights also helps reduce the risk.
