We've got the lowdown on how to make your flight a pleasant experience. Follow our tips and tricks and you'll be speeding through airport security and seeing the best of DeWitt in no time. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane trip can be a great experience if you carry the right gear. Firstly, you'll want some toiletry items, such as lip balm and hand cream, a spare change of clothes and a good novel. Next, make room in your carry-on bag for your laptop, a charger, any medications and maybe a quality neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of banned items can differ between airlines, the general guide to follow is avoid carrying anything flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes things like knives, scissors, spray paint and flares. Sports equipment like bows and arrows, and items that could injure passengers, such as swords and batons, can't come on board with you either.
What to wear on a flight:
- The main aim is to make yourself as comfortable as you can. Don layers of natural fibers and remember to pack a pullover in case you get cold. Pick a pair of well-fitting, flat shoes as your feet may swell a little during the flight. Leave the high heels and chunky boots in your luggage.
- A serious condition known as DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clots forming due to inactivity and poor circulation. Walking around the cabin and doing regular foot and leg exercises in your seat helps to prevent this occurring. Wearing a good pair of compression socks can also help.
