Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you've planned ahead. We've compiled a list of handy tips that will help get your Grand Detour vacation started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Traveling on a plane can be a cruisy experience if you take the right gear. Firstly, you'll want some toiletry items, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a spare set of clothes and a good novel. Next, make room in your bag for your electronic gadgets, chargers, your medications and perhaps a quality neck pillow too. Last, but definitely not least, don't forget to bring your passport, travel documents and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of restricted items can differ between air carriers, the general rule of thumb is nothing flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, blades, spray paint and fireworks. Sporting equipment like hockey sticks, and objects that could injure passengers, such as pepper spray and firearms, won't be allowed on board either.
What to wear on a flight:
- The long, narrow aisles of a plane are not the best place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfortable clothing and pack a sweater as it can get quite cool inside the cabin during long-haul flights. Flat, slightly roomy shoes are also a wise idea.
- The serious condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to poor circulation. Doing regular leg and foot exercises while seated is a great way to prevent this from occurring. Wearing a pair of compression tights or socks also helps reduce the risk.
