• A plane ride can be a cruisy experience if you bring the right things. • You've probably heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To minimize your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks and keep your legs and feet moving.

• Be sure to keep your travel documents and passport easily accessible. They're the first things you'll be asked for by airport security.
• Time to strip down. Well sort of. Your coat, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like your earphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
• All electronic gadgets, including your laptop and phone, are also required to be scanned.
• Any gels or liquids, such as perfume or toothpaste, that you want to take on board must be no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). They must also all fit inside a quart-size (one liter), clear zip-close bag.
• Slip-on shoes are a clever footwear choice as you're less likely to be asked to remove them when passing through security. Safety boots and heavier-style shoes are usually subjected to extra screening.
• Knives and other sharp items are not allowed in the cabin. They'll be confiscated at security, so put them in your checked suitcase.
